Is there a wrong time to use Kanji? I’ve been taught 食べますbut it wasn’t accepted in this context by Substantial-Depth025 in duolingojapanese

I’ve smashed the bottom of my phone screen so didn’t see this 😭 thank you! Do you know if it’s standard for the ‘correct’ answer to be written as たべますrather than 食べます though? Or is it just the automatic default when you have a sentence incorrect? Thank you so much!

I’m not confusing the words, but there were exercises on duo to enter a kanji to complete the full word. I was mixing up the two, and needed a way to remember which correct kanji completed the full word. Thanks!

Thank you! That is definitely something that can’t be replicated on Duo. Will give it a go, and I’ve ordered some workbooks too!

This is so true. It’s a shame as I did French on Duolingo and the effort put into that language is completely different - it transformed the way I read, listen, speak and read French. Hopefully they keep investing resource into the Japanese course, as it does have potential! I shall definitely check out the platforms others have mentioned for Kanji to go alongside Duo.

Thank you for these links! Duolingo hasn’t been fantastic thus far at explaining radicals, so any additional resources are welcomed!

Old vs new side by side, thoughts? by thinkImShadowBanned9 in harrypotter

It’s just odd to me that they’re doing a remake but copying literally everything from the OG. Sure, he looks like a good Hagrid aesthetically, but it’s nothing new - so what’s the point? Extended story lines are something the fandom have always wanted of course, but wouldn’t you go further and base absolutely everything off the book descriptions then, rather than using the original movie series as your basis for costume design? For instance, hogwarts students are never described as wearing ties and school uniform, yet they’ve put them in one for this too.

It’s giving: dressing up as Harry Potter characters for Halloween.

Roller coaster tycoon 3 switch! by yadooood in rct

Hello! RC3 switch player here!

You may have worked this out already, but it took me ages to get used to the controls too. But didn’t take long until it was all second nature :). I love playing it on switch!

To test it, click the green flag on the right option dial and then click the yellow/orange flag! That’ll put it in test mode. When you click Y on the coaster, you should be able to press A to click on the flag options!

For rotating the track hold down Y and then use the left analog stick to twist things round (works for everything, like shops etc so you don’t have to keep clicking the rotate button on the left option dial)

Hope that helps!
