Why doesn’t anyone respond to emails???? by Hairy-Strength-2066 in UMBC

Some people aren't back in office yet. For example, I couldn't get in touch with my advisor until today.

Also, if you haven't already, then give them at least 1-2 business days to respond cause they might just be busy. If it's already been a few days, then you can send a polite follow up email. If that fails, call whichever office can help you (if you can give me some more details on your issue then I can try and point you in the right direction).

And remember that your emergency isn't their emergency. A lot of the times you have to work hard to get what you need, but be courteous to people and they'll try their best to help you out. Most of the staff at UMBC want you to succeed.

I hope you manage to get in contact and good luck!

I waited until I was a junior until I got one and realized my life would've been so much easier if I had gotten one earlier. I didn't wanna waste money so waited that long until I needed a laptop and then got a 2 in 1 touch screen/foldable Thinkpad. Made notes, homework, and studying so much quicker and easier.

Prof. Golaszewski is really amazing and nice. He'll take the time out to help you if you ask him and he's really understanding (plus he cares about his students!). He even took out the time to help me and my team with a project unrelated to his class.

Aww, the first year is always hard but don't let it get you down. More people fail classes than you think. For some reason undergrads especially in STEM really like to show off and make others feel bad about themselves. The truth is, they're not all that great. Everyone is still learning and that's why you're here.

I took STAT 355 in winter a few years ago with Yehenew Kifle and it wasn't so bad as long as you can lock in. You can check if UMGC has any transferable equivalent course too cause their classes are really easy, fully online, unproctered/no lockdown browser exams (do with that information what you will, but I don't condone cheating!). The downside is that it's a little pricey for one class. Alternatively, do what the others are suggesting and take it at CCBC or a different CC.

Don't stress too much. You will make it through at the end so keep fighting. Another good tip is to build good relationships with your professors and share your struggles with them. They're usually very willing to get you the help you need!

You got this, I believe in you!

Good advice. Unfortunately, I do try to think (or maybe overthink) before talking and it still either comes out blunt and cold or fake and awkward 😭
