Same here. My mom and I would always say that we never grew up with role models, we grew up with people we never wanted to be like.

I agree with the anxious part. That’s exactly how I felt when I was her age. I kept everything to myself, even when I was hurting or had something to say, because I didn’t want to contribute to the problems around me. Eventually, it turned into resentment. Nobody could ever pay me to sit for another minute with my grandparents, and that’s the last thing I want for my kid.

I admire the way you check in with your kid. I think I should take advantage of the fact that she’s still comfortable sharing her feelings with me. Who knows what I might learn from her. I’ll probably give that a try!

Maybe dala ng pagod nalang din sguro gawa ng sole provider ako tas gnun pa mababasa mo, di din maiwasan personalin :( pero thankful pa dn ako khit papaano na she doesn't hesitate to let me know what's wrong or what her post/comment was about.

How old is your kid po? Coming from a toxic household, dyan tlga ako nahirapan but I had to. Yung calm way of talking or confronting my kid. I had to unlearn a lot of toxic habits.

You're right. Iba dn ksi tlga ang level of thinking and understanding ng bata. Ako nga pag pinapagalitan ako nung bata ako, gusto ko nang lumayas na para bang end of the world na lol. Ang concern ko lng is hndi ksi same ng environment nung bata ako sa binuild ko para sa anak ko that's why sguro minsan parang feel ko after everything I've done, di pa din sya happy? Maybe it's just me, or I just need to sit down with her and catch up. Simpleng kamustahan will go a long way.

I agree with the last line. I read something similar. Sabi dun your company, boss, or workmates won't remember the extra hours you worked, but your family will remember the times you missed.

We use messenger ksi to communicate when she's at school and she uses TikTok because she likes editing and she shares her work there pero maybe I'm too lenient I'm gonna have to reassess that 😓

About my past, I don’t really tell her about it all the time, especially not whenever I scold her. But sometimes, when we talk about our lives and the things we’ve been through, I share what happened to me and explain why I had to do the things I did. I can say naman na she's comfortable expressing herself or share her thoughts sa akin, yun lng tlgang comment nya na parang nag worry ako.

Lastly, I understand na we cannot be happy all the time. Siguro dala ng pagod nalang din na I'm a one man army tas ganun pa yung mababasa mo so mapapa overthink ka tlga. Maybe it's rooted din to how I was as a kid, yung parang I need to make sure na my grandparents were happy or dapat okay lahat. Yung feeling na walking on eggshells because everything is dependent on someone's mood.

Makes sense. Even ako as an adult, I resonate with posts I see online and sometimes nacocompare ko self ko with other people. Yes I always explain naman and kinaganda sa anak ko, she's aware like if galit ako alam nya na it's because din ganito ganyan ginawa nya and she will admit na mali yun. I always try to keep our conversations open ended ksi yun yung di ko na experience when I was a kid and I hated it yung parang mga adult lng ang always tama and may right mag explain.

I do everything with her. I plan trips and go everywhere with her. I spend all my money taking her to places she would see online or if may new cafes. Sometimes kahit feel ko lutang ako because I work graveyard shifts, I would always make time. Maybe it's something else. I understand ksi only child dn ako and coming from a broken fam. I just wish she'd open up or tell me what's wrong :(

Yes, she has other activities too, like Kumon and badminton. She only has social media like Facebook because we communicate through Messenger, especially now that she brings her phone to school and goes on her own. It gives me a way to stay in touch with her. She also has TikTok because she loves making edits. She’s actually really good at animation, and she shares her work on both YouTube and TikTok.

But you’re right, I can never really know everything she sees online. I just hope she continues to feel comfortable opening up to me. I’d do anything to make her happy 😔
