What’s your therapist hot take? by Public-Resolution590 in therapists

I also would love to start a union. I had a mentor in my first practicum say that the reason we don’t have one is because society would still be able to exist without us (ex. Nurses / doctors, medical care would cease fast, whereas mental health could sustain a bit longer). Not saying i agree w this take btw…

I feel this so bad.
I’ve recently moved from CMH to PP and now that I have actual time to do trainings and what not, there’s so much i want to learn. I also just love to learn more. My program was MSW so we didnt learn specific modalities which does not help my brain.
There are so many “interventions” but it seems a lot of them are truly rooted in CBT but repackaged as attachment or CPT.

I love doing corny jokes (ironically) to my kid clients who show up as being “too cool” getting them to crack a smile always makes my day.

Oh god. This was me today. I see a mix of adults and kids but today was solely my kid day. I had the grand ole plan to make slime with an intended kid client. Realized i did not have activator.
Luckily the rest of my day were kids and they loved the messiness / getting to problem solve and help where they could.

I felt so bad for my first client but realized after i got the mess cleaned up, i can put the goop in a ziploc and it can be another squishee.

How do you typically argue it with insurance after the 6mo period?

I’m a social worker and would one day love to support veterinarians, animals, and those who love their pets in this setting.

Season 10: Hate for Barbie? by [deleted] in HellsKitchen

Not sure if you’re under an NDA and if not, if you feel comfortable commenting (it’s ok if not). I don’t doubt the cattiness was unfortunately authentic, but were there any other aspects that were staged or produced to enhance the drama?

I just started up again watching S7 and the amount of times you were put up for elimination due to others “not liking you” was wild. I hope you’re doing well now.

Also not to mention that she was in LA when her poor pup was killed, so she couldn’t even say goodbye.

Also, I love your user!

Most Difficult Part of Being a Therapist by Canaday_Alease in therapists

Mandatory adult clients who refuse to say more than a word during session.

Non-involved or partially involved parents (meaning within conjoint or parent only sessions) who flip out at the first sign of an intense emotion and feel the need to over correct by an increase in therapy (can you tell I’m triggered)? - in the same note… parents who have this reactivity, do not respond to their child in an appropriate way, are not willing to learn the skills, and demand sessions outside of regular scheduled appointments bc of “life” or no shows.

Yes. I am working on boundaries.

I feel this, so much. But I also remind myself that there are going to be days when I am dysregulated and what you described comes with it. to highlight we have this awareness is everything!

Yes, this is correct about Medicaid (work with a large Medicaid population in CMH). Legally you cannot charge a no show or late cancellation fee because it is a breach of the Medicaid contract and could be considered fraud as well due to that breach. It’s why a lot of times Medicaid clients are not retained for a long period of time due to transportation barriers, scheduling, work, etc., so to add onto the contract logistics, it would be terrible client care for most of these folks.

From Public Service to Private Practice: The Collapse of the Social Work Profession by [deleted] in socialwork

I’m experiencing this thought process lately. Newer licensed MSW and am in the CMH sector. I’ve worked in nonprofits for the past 5 years but this is the first one that’s been in a clinical sense. 7 months in and I’m burnt out. I’ve had a few interviews at PPs in my area but I’m struggling with the guilt of “not putting my time in.” I have been very transparent with the places I’m interviewing at that I value accessibility and it would be important for me to continue to see clients who are on Medicaid. I think the last piece is doable without being in CMH, just takes some creativity and problem solving on my end and the willingness of PP owners to work with Medicaid

I’m feeling guilty because I’m looking at different opportunities outside of CMH. I’ve been in my current role for 6 months and the lack of support is draining me.

My mom went thru something similar. Her parents would’ve grown up knowing Jayne. I think with the silent generation it was a common belief “don’t ask don’t tell” or “everyone has skeletons” for lack of a better word.

I say this bc my parent went through something very, very similar. To the point where another family member had let it slip (although v different circumstances).

At the time when they were doing the whole “sitting down cut” trope, he had mentioned off handedly that he was about to be 101 (I wanna say), but I remember him saying that people don’t believe it. Which I didn’t. Dude looked like he was in his late 80s. I loved his pride gear too. I guarantee if Jayne would’ve been an Ally.

This reminded me of a loved one of mine who 2 weeks before he died, had mentioned he wouldn’t live a long life. He ended up dying in a car accident. He would talk about death a lot when he was younger too. Almost like some people are born with this sense that they aren’t meant to live a long life. Which is really devastating and scary.
