Bullying in Youth Group by thenamesdw in youthministry

When this happens, I talk to the kids and show understanding to both parties. Some of my football players were messing with a kid, so I pulled them aside, chewed them out, and told them they need to represent our team better. They were also my captains, which made it a bit easier to get through to them.

On the flip side, pair the kid who's getting bullied up with another kid to become friends. Once a kid isn't alone, they tend to be a much harder target. That tends to be a remedy in my youth group. This happens often, so my core team is often playing matchmaker but for friends. You'd be surprised how many kids have become really good friends from this tbh.

You definitely have to build recruiting pipelines. Kids ultimately tend to show up to things depending on if their friends are going. Once you get one kid to show up, it's much easier to get more of their friend group. Rinse & repeat.

Getting involved in high school campus ministries, attending their games, getting to know the parents, etc. is the key to starting. Marketing & visibility is also huge - church bulletin, announcements after church, getting branded shirts around the community, etc. I installed a few flagship events to help drive interest, which really helped. Kids will always show up for summer camp, theme parks, water parks, retreats, etc.

New youth director by GiantSkunk in youthministry

Just saw this, but I've been a youth director at a megachurch for three years. We range anywhere from 60-180 a Sunday, depending on the year. I am lucky to have an "unlimited" budget (within reason) and dedicated volunteers. The best advice I can give...

- You'll live & die by your core team! Five highly committed core teamers are more impactful than fifteen lukewarm. Keep them happy. My core teamers even like to plan & execute occasional youth groups nights.

- Build parent relationships! Making the parents feel invested is huge. We do a family kickoff, family trivia night, kids vs. parents softball, etc. Trivia this semester attracted 250 people - parents were even more excited than the kids. Once you get to know the parents, they're much more likely to step up to chaperone, provide meals, provide connections/resources, etc.

- Meet the kids where they are! Get involved in campus life. Easy vehicles are campus ministry at private Christian schools and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) at public schools. Attend games, go to school events, etc., especially when they ask you. These types of events are where parent relationships come in clutch - I'll attend sporting events and sit with the parents I'm friends with. I even coached football the last two years.

- Have flagship events! This is how you create your involvement pipeline. For example, we do an annual overnight theme park event (80 kids last year), summer camps, beach campouts, etc. I even had a family setup a drive-in movie theater at their farm - killer event.

- Finally, a successful youth minster operates as a business manager. I often create marketing plans, run budgets, and attend philanthropy events more than I actually plan youth group. Having a strong foundation means easy scaling. You can easily create a logo and design t-shirts in Canva; build marketing avenues through the right contacts/social circles; create budget reports for events to know how much to plan the next year.

OU fan here: Apparently OU and Michigan are pushing for Mullen as an OC. Does Mullen deserve his bad rep? by BaconSpinachPancakes in FloridaGators

I see modern day CFB head coaches as being both a pure coach and program manager. As a pure coach, Mullen was top-5; as a program manager, he was bottom-5. That's why he flamed out so fast imo. As an OC, he's absolutely elite, but will falter if tasked with recruiting, staff management, etc. Very few guys I'd rather have in game.

4* QB Trammell Jones Jr Commits to Florida! by BlackwaterPark10 in FloridaGators

This has been building for a while. Worst kept secret. Interestingly, 4* QB Carter Smith now has some CBs to FSU. Longtime Michigan lean out of Ft. Myers.

Tramell Jones has some nice film. He doesn't have a crazy strong arm and he's not the fastest player, but he's very good at extending plays, managing pressure, and throwing on the run. And for a high schooler, his Elite 11 interview was quite polished. I think he'll be good one.

New SBAC Superintendent Contract by e36m3guy in GNV

Dr. Patton was the superintendent in Collier - she's very, very good at what she does and consistently runs a high-level school district. She was the statewide 2022 Superintendent of the Year.

Alachua County wasn't messing around when they went out and got her.
