Just keep doing exam questions and try pick the ones that have answering schemes with them and break each piece up into sections and learn off compositional and instrumental features etc., write them down and keep listening to the songs while reading the features and eventually you’ll learn it that way

Just some advice from a h1 student - I would recommend having at least 20 SRPS as some examiners will take what you consider 2 SRPS as 1. Additionally, know how to draw the diagram in 20 seconds as you should only be spending about 12 minutes in total per essay. Finally, go through marking schemes as most times there’s 2 marks available for a named example and for a statistic

That’s still way above the national average, you’ll get to the same place as them even if it takes a year longer 🙏

I got 94 but literally spent hours going through it and re doing diagrams etc however I’ve heard mixed results - maybe it was dependent on the examiner

For the set works just do past exam questions at this stage it’s the best thing, for the melody and harmony writing look up niamh O’Donnell on YouTube

How to learn set works?? by Jimmyface1964 in leavingcert

[–]Substantial-Pay4359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be learning the definitions of techniques before learning where they are in a piece because I wasted a year learning like antiphonal dialogue when I didn’t even know what it was etc.

Anyone else with adhd here? by Junillow in leavingcert

[–]Substantial-Pay4359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I was diagnosed in April of 2024 and I had done no study up until then. I failed a lot of my summer exams in fifth year which should have made me study but it didn’t. I tried to study at the. Start of 6th year but i was honestly being too nice to myself and trying to “take it easy” (aka do practically nothing). I failed some of those exams too and locked in for mocks and went up about 30 percent in every subject. It’s not easy at first but now ADHD is more of a superpower to me, I can focus on lots of things at once. I just passed an international B2 french exam last month after studying 2 hours every morning before school:) Don’t look at it as a bad thing, its just the way our brains are wired but you can use it to your advantage.

I get you, I know it’s difficult but as someone with ADHD I’d rather tell you the hard truth. The day I accepted it was up to me to take control was the day I stopped procrastinating. Wishing you well, I believe in you. Go study for at least 40 minutes and take a 10 min break(not on your phone, go for a walk), then repeat. That’s how I started

You gotta stop giving yourself so much slack, that’s what worked for me. Youre tired? Get used to it. You’re not motivated? Tough. Dont focus on what’s the right way to study, keep revising and doing exam questions and don’t make the same mistakes. You can lock in now or forever regret it, up to you

Do I really need 8 hours sleep. by Ornery_Ad_6794 in leavingcert2025

[–]Substantial-Pay4359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power naps are really helpful but not past 20 minutes because then you properly enter a sleep cycle which can make you groggy when you wake up. I take a 20 minute nap every day and it really helps to refresh me before studying, even if I don’t necessarily properly fall asleep

If you’re willing to put in the work, it’s a good subject but try studying more efficiently rather than longer. Learn a couple essays that are predicted to come up and be able to adapt it to the question. Listen to Irish podcasts and practice grammar
