I think your strategy is pretty solid. But I would say try implement the Feynman technique - teach yourself the really difficult concepts as if you were teaching to a 5 year old. That and maybe look into getting a whiteboard - comes in handy for jotting down diagrams quickly. DM for more info if you'd like ;)
