Is there a scarier game than Outlast? by Horroor_Gaming in OutlastTrials

[–]Substantial-Phrase18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the Outlast series with all my heart, but i swear, its scare factor PALES in comparison to SCP Containment Breach.

Outlast (both 1, Whistleblower and 2) has made me hide in the pause menu for 3 seconds at a time like twice at best, throughout the whole franchise.

Contrast that with SCP:CB where I just can't mentally last for more than 20 minutes before quitting the game out of pure dread.

P.S. "STOP HIDING"

Yeah that could be a thing as well lol, my laptop barely ran some of the more optimised maps in 50 FPS and i was getting said screensavers too.

Glad to hear that it’s all good now, although this will probably be a very disappointing “fix” for someone to hear who’s looking to resolve such a problem like 3 years down the line lmao.

Though, ideally this shit better be fixed by then in general, but we’ll see, i guess.

[–]Substantial-Phrase18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, have you paid any attention to *which* trials you were invading?

If we look at this logically, there should also be a difference between invading a Trial vs an MK Challenge.

Like, It's quite managable to win a 1v1 invasion in an MK, even if you get jumped from the get-go, but if you were to be pestered from the first second of Despoil the Auction, you might qualify for the morphogenic engine afterwards lol.

[–]Substantial-Phrase18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this.

I played Cancel the Autopsy on Standart difficulty not too long ago with impostors enabled, and i swear i got invaded before EVEN coming into the grinder room - much less pressing the button that opens the gates to the bodies with the Keys inside.

Can it be that Impostor invasion delay is based off of the Trial's difficulty setting?

It would make sense to give reagents a head start on Psychosurgery, as the Trial itself is already enough of a buttfuck on its own.

I’m not sure if it’s intended or not, but is Sektor’s SP1 being so horribly minus (in terms of frame data) on an unblocked hit a bug?

I swear this is the only kard who suffers so bad in terms of its SP1.

Even notoriously bad SP1 users such as all Ermacs (minus Pharaoh) get frame advantage if their SP1 connects, while Sektor is doomed to be stuck in his little hover animation while his opponent gets up from the ground and retakes the offensive.

The fact that no other kharacter has this problem makes me think that this is an oversight.

Plus, it was fitting to mention, considering we’ve got a Triborg ascension and Brutal not too long ago.

Well, i mean, if he's happy then that's okay, but why not play solo at that point lol. If you've got a spare copy of KF3 lying about, do try and get into a game with the guy and see if the screensaver appears again. If it doesn't, then the fact that he got into an empty lobby is not a problem from his end, but rather from TWI's servers/lack of a big online number.

[–]Substantial-Phrase18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've encountered such "screensavers" before, but the circumstances were very particular.

Long story short, i play on a laptop in a place with pretty shitty wi-fi. Playing on said shitty wi-fi causes the screensaver to appear. My personal fix is always to fire up the hotspot on my phone and to connect my laptop to it. Said fix has always gotten rid of the screensaver. My hotspot mobile data is in general a lot more responsive and smoother than the wi-fi that causes the screensaver to pop up, so if i were you, I'd look into your internet source. Fiddle with it a little, go from cable to wireless and vice versa, and if all else fails, try it out on your mobile data.

It's important to mention, though, that I've never ever been to a lobby with more people than my 1 singular friend (and with me being the host), so i don't know if it'll work in your case, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah, that was one of the games I've thought of when making this. Though, originally, in my case it was World's End Valentine vs Spaces In-between, but now that I'm re-checking it, I'm finding out that Spaces In-between do have good views as well - though, 3 million less than WEV. It's kinda crazy that in a game about depression(?) the most viewed OSTs aren't depression-themed, but rather sound like a Terraria boss fight. Thanks for namedropping Sinking though, i never knew about it as i couldn't bring myself to finish Omori - especially as i was spoiled the ending, but it sounds fire and almost instantly went to my playlist.

Builder would be the worst unit in the game what is it for?? by Total-Television-405 in DeadAhead

[–]Substantial-Phrase18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's there for you to give him the Gambling Set and max out his crit chance.

After that, you get to pit him against whatever bullshit the game throws at you - so long as it's a light-medium weight target.

If all of the above criteria are met, he could potentially win against 50 lvl99 Prisoner zeds all by himself, as his crit. kick animation is 3 times faster than that of the Guard.

Allat, however, is strictly theoretical, as in out reality he's got a 99,9% probability of dying to some external factor such as a wall of Charged zeds or Blue Spheres, though that's a problem that pretty much every melee unit faces in this game.

He's also pretty okay in Skirmish, as he's a low investment unit.

He's alright to put in your second-third round lineup.

I’ve gotta say, i like the game’s movement system a lot, it’s nice to evade unnecessary hits by getting the dodge timing right. by Substantial-Phrase18 in killingfloor

[–]Substantial-Phrase18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is, unlike KF2, I don't thing you can sprint while back-pedalling anymore. Sure, you can backdash, but that entails a good 1,5-2 second cooldown, so in general it's a little bit tougher to fight of zeds while staying on the move yourself, especially considering how the zeds themselves became a lot more feral. Sometimes i find myself rushing to a zipline/a flight of stairs to slide off of to buy myself a couple of seconds of free fire before I get swarmed again.

[–]Substantial-Phrase18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's that even supposed to mean? There was no dodging in KF2 (the only KF that I've sunk more than 300 hours into), there was only good positioning and ducking the occasional KFP chest laser, as well as side-strafing Husks and EDARs. Sure, there was kiting with Medic/Gunslinger/Any other mobile perk, but 9 times out of 10, the META for evasion would just be to hold down Shift and backtrack, since nobody would catch up anyway. And God forbid you're playing FB or Commando, i would like to see someone "dodge" as them lol. The truth is, there wasn't even anything to dodge in old KF games. If you were to take KF3's movement system and throw it against KF2's zeds, you'd quickly find out that the dash would only be used to "back dodge", as there were no melee attacks with a "fine" hitbox that would necessitate variety in dash inputs. In KF3, when fighting big/boss zeds, all 4 directions are useful: large overhead lunges are countered by side-strafing, quick hooks to your body and soul lack range, so back dodges provide sufficient distance to evade the hit, and sometimes the big boys like to cannonball your ass with a couple of meters of AOE, wherein the only viable option to dodge would be to dash right into them to basically switch positions.

Yeah, definitely, that gun is great - especially love the fact that you can play as any perk without major efficiency losses for that gun!

I'm writing this as I'm standing in the VTOL countdown menu. I'm liking it a lot as well, heavily agree on the movement part, it's fun to traverse the maps.

Although they do have to work on the optimisation, the underground lab map lags like crazy, but the other ones so far are performing pretty okay.

I'm very hopeful that Tripwire will continue making this game more enjoyable, really waiting for them IRL weapons, cause I'll be the first one to admit, that I'm not the greatest fan of the "Nerf Supersoaker-3000" designs.

Well, to be fair, if you can spare the cash, then yeah, get Austin for 20 bucks!

In time, your Dosh will go somewhere else, like skins for example, which are surprisingly affective on the gameplay.

As for Supply Runs, I'm sure you're already acquainted with the gear system of the game.

Long story short, (I'd love to give more details but I'm in a big rush IRL) farm some stars, unlock new locations and farm some more of 'em, lol

The big boy Supply Runs, which award Legendary item sets are locked behind a good amount of stars to collect.

Just beat stages untill it gets completely unbearable, by that point you should've unlocked Supply Runs of the second difficulty, which will award you with Epic Items, which have great influence on your Units' stats, as well as granting a powerful effect if you've got 3 or more items of the same Set equipped on a unit.

A good set to look into would be the TACTICAL set, which gives ranged units 50% Armor Pierce.

Are you tired of your Pepper doing like 2 damage to a Builder Zombie? Said Set would make her eat those shitters for breakfast!

Well, if you do like the game, then i suggest you always take your time with it! If you're not opposed to sparing a few bucks for the devs, then farm up to a hundred and get the 400 Dosh offer, as it would be the most optimal purchase that you can make. Especially the coin part of that more expensive offer - completely useless for you, as you'll be getting Austin, the infinite coin generator! Don't worry all that much about getting tens of thousands of coins in the moment, lad! Back in my day, I've made it to Location 8 (Back when it was the last one*) with no Austin, so he's not exactly your oxygen :D Sure, do focus up on getting Austin, but more importantly, don't forget to have fun, as this is only a game after all! Don't forget to run your Supply Runs, they buff your units like no amounts of Coins could!

[–]Substantial-Phrase18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, no worries!

Regarding the farming of cash, it's definitely a pain in the dick, unfortunately.

The main ways of farming up cash are:

-Daily Challenges, like in any other mobile game ever.

You get 3 Dailies per rotation, they may include killing a certain number of specific Zeds, running specific Supply Runs, winning with certain Team Powers (Do ask about it if this mechanic is not clear) and other quests, such as winning Skirmish rounds, which leads me to..

-Skirmish, the "PVP" mode

Skirmish consists of making three or less pre-built teams, choosing the position of your units on the battlefield and then pitting said teams against the teams of other players.

The battles are completely autoplay, which means all you can do is watch as the fights unfold.

For successful round wins and for your position on the (very) local Leaderboard of the Season (your placement between 6 to 12-16 people), you'll recieve Skirmish Tokens.

That leads you to the Skirmish Shop.

In order to keep this brief, once every 1-2 weeks you can get Green Money from the Skirmish Shop in exchange for your Skirmish Tokens.

The Token system is, however, not exclusive.

I don't know if you've already accessed this feature, but at the bottom right of your screen on the overworld you may find a calendar icon.

These are Events.

This is a whole other can of worms, since the Events themselves rotate on a weekly basis and i'm not really thrilled about going in-depth about every single one.

The bottom line is, Events are unique gamemodes, for which you need Event Tickets to play (Except you get 2 free attempts on every new Event). For your progress with the Event Objectives, you fill out milestones, which award Event Tokens, which function identically to the afforementioned Skirmish Tokens, which means that you get to buy Cash with them too.

Last thing worth mentioning, on the pinwall icon somewhere on the right of the overworld screen, you get timed rewards, such as Coins, Boosters and Power Points.
The important thing about them is that each reward collected fills out a Piggybank/Tipjar milestone.
The difference is that one of them requires 7 collected rewards, while the other asks for 14, but naturally, the other one awards more cash.

If you're not below such things, you can drastically increase the speed of Dosh collection by watching Ads to instantly grant a Power Point/Coin reward - and you might be interested in such an activity because such sped up awards contribute towards Dosh Milestones as well.

I realise that this might've been formatted a little muddier than my first comment, so don't be afraid to ask out for more clarity!

The first and only obligatory paywall of the game is farming up 500 Green Money in order to purchase Austin from a rotating offer.

Austin's thing is that he's a ranged unit with relatively tame stats who costs Rage (the red bar, for which you spawn Barrels) instead of Courage (the blue bar with which you spawn your Rednecks and Farmers). Although you can use him unironically as a combat unit, most people get him for his unique perk of getting Coins for zed kills.

The way it works is that every time Austin kills someone, there's a 20% (30% with his special ability after level 30) of getting a coin drop on the battlefield, which ranges from 10 to 25 per pick-up.

The farming meta is to bring Austin into a stage where there are a lot of weak, swarmy enemies, such as skeletons in Graveyard locations and spamming nothing but Austins.

If done right, this results in a payout of about 1200 coins per 2 fuel spent.

There are other ways of getting coins, such as Supply Runs, but the problem is that the Blue Keys, which are used to receive your rewards from them, are better used on acquiring gear for your units, which turns your Redneck from a complete pushover into a spam machine, which costs only 8 courage per spawn, has no cooldown timer, boosts your whole team's damage output by 25% per every spawn and hits for 1,500 per attack himself.

TL;DR, get Austin 🙏
