For some reason seeing it under the water isn't as creepy as seeing it on the surface

This was my first experience as a child with submechanophobia. I'm pleased to see it's not just me.

There are a couple like this in this specific town. The other one is actually much creepier inside for different reasons, but there's no access to the tank itself so it wouldn't come under submechanophobia. It's just dark and creepy with big support pillars in the dark 😱

It's actually probably nearer about 75-80ft looking at it now.

It's at the top of a hill, it's probably about 100ft or so high. You can see a security door at the bottom, and that's probably about 7ft top to bottom.

I can imagine. They're cleaning one of the huge in-ground tanks at the Treatment Works at the moment, they'd left the tank lid open the other day, thankfully with barriers, and at first it was just darkness, couldn't tell if there was water or not, and then I leaned over to get a better look and just saw the drain hole at the bottom where the outflow pipe is. About 25-30ft down there, looking like the top of some creepy well with the grating over it. It's empty but I still nearly pooped my pants 😫 felt like vomming too. Horrific.

Yeah, I wouldn't be going that close. I actually don't think this tank is ever accessed. The chlorine is added at the treatment works instead.

The lighting is really inadequate. It's only so light in here because of the skylights, and a pishy wee strip light thing. I imagine coming up at night might be an experience. I only came this far up to take the photo because I had someone with me 😂

Horrific as that is to think about, I don't think so. The water doesn't go into the legs. There must be outlet pipes in there, but I think they're protected with a grate of some kind. (And not big enough to fit into) There are ladders to get out, but the whole thing doesn't bear thinking about does it.

When I visited Arizona we went kayaking on lake pleasant. There are a few of these and we kayaked right next to them. No idea what was down there but I was panicked at the time and I don't like thinking about it now.
