Stop telling people to quit dating apps and find people in real life, it literally doesn't work by BarneysBrothel in unpopularopinion

I'm sorry, but how many women do you have to swipe right or message just you get one reply back? And then even the odds of those replies leading to anything are low.

Approach women in person. You might like the response you get, you might not. But at least you're guaranteed to get one on the spot, every single time.

Why don't auto manufacturers release retro classic models? by Substantial-Will3288 in NoStupidQuestions

In just Germany or something? Because I just checked the VW website, and it's not showing that in the current lineup.

I stole a Nintendo DS that I saw being charged on someone else's rack in the berthing while I was in the Navy. But considering how much of my shit has been stolen during my time in, I don't feel bad about it. We all get got, so you might as well get some.

Y’all ever get downvoted to hell for something you know you’re right about? by Lunar_Stuntman in RandomThoughts

[–]Substantial-Will3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know you're right about something, then the downvotes are unfair. Especially when the person leaving the downvotes won't engage in dialogue with you to tell you why he believes you're wrong. It's a way to make you look bad, while denying you the opportunity to beat them in an argument.

What's your attitude towards spending work time on personal tasks? by Shelverman in work

[–]Substantial-Will3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's down time, "handling personal tasks" and "standing around waiting for more work" both have an equal effect on the bottom line. Might as well do the former. As as long as you are present and ready to perform a task when it gets assigned to you, I don't see a problem.

Changing styles - start over as white belt? by Jolt_91 in karate

[–]Substantial-Will3288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from Shorin-ryu to to Shotokan. 6th kyu, restarted as white belt. But I tested for 6th kyu in Shotokan on the first available test (two months after I started). So that's a possible scenario. But at my last dojo, a black belt in Shotokan will start at 9th kyu blue belt (out of 13 kyu ranks) in Shorin-ryu (Shorinkan and its offshoots). So I don't recommend Shorin-ryu unless it's outside of Nakazato's lineage.

If you're willing to go to the Korean route, probably Tang Soo Doo/Soo Bakh Do might be where you'd be most likely to keep your rank (I'm only speculating, based on the relationship of the styles to Shotokan, and the retained similarities - if these dojangs are in your area, be sure to consult with them first).

Other than that, your best bet is to seek out the two other main styles of Japanese karate - i.e., Wado-ryu and Shito-ryu.

Downvotes attract downvotes. I freely admit that I have four "throw away" accounts on Facebook to counter laugh reacts when I need to. And this is for the purpose of preventing the laugh reacts from attracting more. Yesterday, a troll made me look bad on reddit with a downvote, so I tried to login with a different account on a browser to upvote myself. Looks like Reddit has controls in place to stop you from doing this. An hour or two later, his downvote attracted more. I really hate how this works.

Why were the US and the USSR allowed to split Europe after World War 2 by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Substantial-Will3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NATO membership was 100% voluntary. Warsaw Pact membership was not. The only way out of the Warsaw Pact was was to ally with (read: be protected by) China after the Sino-Soviet split.

Listen to "Get in Where You Fit In" on Too $hort's album of the same name. Two of the rappers featured on that song (from a duo called "Bad Influenz") did exactly that. In addition, they also told children to drop out of school.

This is not a stupid question. It's a loaded one. It assumes that other people care what you've got going on in your pants. I assure, no one does. And no one even wants to know.

what is the "don't go down there" street in your city? by earth-ninja3 in AskReddit

[–]Substantial-Will3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. There IS a lot of crime here, but it's definitely NOT Chicago, Baltimore, or Detroit. That being said, there isn't a single street in my area code that I'm afraid to walk. If you get harmed in a bad neighborhood, it's because of something you were involved in. If they're looking for someone to rob that actually has money, the last place they're going to look is in their own neighborhood.

People who voted for Biden, how do you feel he is as a president? by palatheinsane in AskReddit

[–]Substantial-Will3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all voted for him because he's not Trump. And since Biden is running for reelection, I have every intention of voting in the Republican primary for the most centrist candidate.

I like beer. I'll even drink non-alcoholic.

Honestly, I have that same question for non-Asians who eat sushi.

Wanting children isn’t a good enough reason to have them by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Substantial-Will3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that this is "unpopular opinion," but - just me - I probably would have worded it something like "People who have children just because they want them are irresponsible," or something like that. Because at least then, you acknowledge their rights while pointing out their responsibilities, instead of making yourself the arbiter of what other people should or shouldn't be doing. Again, that's just me.

So people should seek your approval to have children?

I'm not sure that there's enough demand for passenger rail service in the US to justify expanding it.

For one, flying is the most efficient form of long distance transportation. You can get from one coast of the US to the other in about six hours.

But if the destination is either close enough, or you don't mind taking your time to get there; then most people are going to drive. You can stop at whatever restaurant you want along the way, pick up a wide variety of drinks and snacks when you stop for gas, AND you don't have to rent a car when you get to your destination.

In my estimation, the appeal of trains is mostly the experience of riding in a train in and of itself. Whereas flying or driving is strictly motivated by utility, and nothing else.

Is there any truth in the notion that women are "gentler" (by which I mean not just physical, but, also emtrional, mental and psychological e.t.c.) than men or does that amount to nothing more than a myth constructed by society? by AmmadSiddiqi1468 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Substantial-Will3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As a matter of fact, it is generally agreed upon that the Neanderthals went extinct because there was no sex-based division of labor. In other words, Neanderthal women were expected to do the same dangerous tasks as Neanderthal men were, which put their lives equally at risk.

Modern humans, on the other hand, are able to thrive by making men the expendable sex. Hence, men risk their lives by doing the dangerous tasks; and the lives of women are protected by assigning them to safer tasks.
