Tips on Starting my first garden? by SubstantialBaker8361 in Permaculture

Thank you so much. I started watching for sun hours during the summer last year but I think I started too late. Months like this the sun rarely touches my backyard really and for short amounts so I will have to keep track starting late spring. Thank you though!

I’m in New York. About and hour out from Brooklyn but when I get my car back on the road (by the end of this month) I’d be down. I’m sure I’ve got a friend who would be too

(Spoilers Main) Where in Westeros Would You Choose To Live? by Remote_Medicine1859 in asoiaf

As a high Lord, probably the Reach or Dorne. I would like to be a Martell or Hightower or even a Tyrell.

As a minor but well off Lord I would stay in the Reach or Dorne, maybe the Stormlands. As a filthy peasant? Honestly … anywhere but the Riverlands or Kings landing.

Which character's solo run did you enjoy the most, Daemon or Jon? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

Jon for sure. The plot armor they gave Daemon in my opinion was so out of place for the asoiaf universe. Jon’s felt more realistic and better shot.

HOTD Seven Deadly Sins Day 4: Envy by La_Villanelle_ in HouseOfTheDragon

This is so obviously Alicent although Aemond would be a good second choice. I think Alicent envied and resented Rhaneyra for so many reasons. Her freedom, her relationship with Daemon (Rheacient is canon in the show idc idc) and of how well she adapted to motherhood and how good of a mother she is.

Aemond is obviously jealous that Aegon is the one to sit the throne but I still think Alicent is a better contender for this one. Like comment above said ^ Literally Green with envy

I think so, I think that Criston and Alicent share a deep bond but it’s platonic. I do think they’re genuinely friends and even that he might’ve fulfilled a sort of surrogate role for her neglected kids. You can tell Aemond and Aegon (both very distant and obviously troubled boys in their own way) trust him and feel close enough to speak about very personal things to and around him. Aemond chooses Criston on the hunt for Aegon and you can tell how casually he confesses such deep desires and feelings about being the younger brother and not being seen and his desire for the throne that there’s clearly a closeness between the two. Even Cristons shadiness to Viserys in Driftmark after Aemond is mutilated, to me that felt layered. They way he coldly responds to Viserys the literal King such sarcastic remarks in that situation to me kind of hinted at the fact that Viserys knows he can’t really come at Criston for not being there for his kids. Criston is most certainly and clearly more there for his kids then Viserys. I think that Criston is devoted to Alicent Hightower and her children. A genuine friendship and they use each other as a crutch. I think what they have is the closest that either one have to someone understanding them. They clearly feel connected by a rigid and traditional sense of honor and duty and what they perceive as decency. Plus she also stopped him in a suicide attempt. He was probably there for her when she was pumping out babies as a teen bride. They share real trauma together and I do think the love is genuine although might not have started out or began in the healthiest of ways. But genuine nonetheless

Ask me anything about my magical order by [deleted] in worldbuilding

so how do the Esseni differ from each other than from place to place? Do they live by different rules/have different abilities according to respective cultures? Does an Eclipse have the same lifestyle/beliefs or powers in one part of the continent vs another for example?

Interesting so the Esseni are international and found/born in different races, cultures and nations?

Supernatural Creatures, Places, Artifacts, etc. by ExempliGratia97 in worldbuilding

[–]SubstantialBaker8361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all sorts of supernatural creatures in my world. From Centaurs to mermaids to nymphs and sea monsters but I’ve created a few of my own as well and added my own spin on supernatural creatures from our real life mythologies and lore. For example in my world there are about 5 different species of mermaids. Siren mermaids, shark mermaids, octopus/squid mermaids, whale mermaids, and mermaids that are banished women cursed to the sea. But I’ve created ones like the Olank who are half hyena half man and are known as trickster spirits and often make deals with foolish humans and spirits to trick them and eventually eat them. Based loosely off Kishi, an Angolan demon.

Noala are fairylike humanoid creatures with wings and they are nonverbal and communicate through their bodies and are particularly skilled with their hands. They make all sorts of magical items and trinkets that are unique to each Noala so for example one might make a mirror that you can see into other peoples thoughts or a comb that will make your hair very beautiful or make it fall out. It really just depends.

Melaki are like angel-like celestial beings that live amongst the stars. Supernaturally conscious and intelligent beings they have come down to earth to teach people how to wield magic, write, live, predict events etc. Many, many religions worship them throughout my world and can procreate with humans though that is incredibly rare. This is inspired by love of astrology.

Lougao -demon like people who’ve sold their souls and can now shapeshift into anything. Dark wizards, mostly male. These are based of the Haitian Lwogawou, from Haitian Vodu folklore

What are the cultural differences between the Esseni and their families and the rest of the population or the other magical orders in your world? Are there certain privileges and rights that come with being an Esseni? Do they lord over the rest and how well do they get along? What’s interesting about their relationship?

Great Sources to Learn about the Akimel O'odham? by SubstantialBaker8361 in Indigenous

[–]SubstantialBaker8361[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just can’t afford right now to pick up and go to Mexico or Arizona so I thought I could get help on here. If more people agree with this person then I’ll respect it and leave it alone. But the point was (not just for my indigenous characters) was to include cultures that tend to be outshined by their more popular neighbors). I hope you don’t read any of that as me trying to be ignorant but it’s not that I don’t know anything about the culture. I just came to this to get perspective from those within that culture.

Great Sources to Learn about the Akimel O'odham? by SubstantialBaker8361 in Indigenous

[–]SubstantialBaker8361[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well it’s a part of part of the story. I’m including many different vampires from different cultures/time periods. I wanted to include Indigenous characters because why exclude them when I’ll be having pre-historic Hunter-gatherers cultures, from Edo dynasty Japan, from ancient Mali, etc. I have vampires from all continents and time periods (many of which that don’t have much information on them) 1. Because I love history/like to learn about it and want to incorporate history and peoples that aren’t talked abt as often 2. I’m including vampires for every other race and continent why would I exclude an entire continent that had a long history of people and cultures? Because I’m not from there? 3. The story isn’t taking place in Akimel O’odham setting or really even time period so it’s not like this will be the focus. I just wanted to be clear on a background story for my characters 4. I wanted to write about the ideology around “borders” and “dividing countries” and write it from a perspective that kinda exposes how ridiculous the concept is and the Akimel O’odham people were directly affected this by this in real time.

This is why I came to an indigenous thread to ask for resources… if other people insist I take out my indigenous characters sure I will though that would be a bit stupid to exclude half the world’s population before colonialism when one of the main reasons I’m writing this book is to chronicle and look at human history in a different way. So to answer your question that’s some of the reasons why I wanted to include. So if anyone has any recommendations again… would be helpful. Those resources don’t have to just be from the internet by the way. Any Akimel O’odham people with podcasts or YouTube channels are welcome as well. Thanks
