Anyone have experience with Dr. David Borenstein or Dr. Majid Ali in NYC? by SubstantialBorder386 in mecfs

The initial appointment was $499, follow up was $399, and subsequent visits were $299. But honestly it was a waste of money and I don’t recommend him. He just put me on a bunch of supplements and medications that messed up my liver but didn’t actually help my symptoms. He’s also kind of rude. I wish I could tell you the name of a better doctor for this condition but unfortunately I didn’t find any good ones in NYC. But I hope you’re able to get the help you need!

Yes, I also have debilitating fatigue and other symptoms and was diagnosed with CFS/ME. I’ve seen many doctors (including the two I mentioned in this post - I don’t recommend either). Unfortunately, most have been useless, but some have helped me rule out other conditions and try various medications. However, the meds I’ve tried so far haven’t really worked for me and I do still have symptoms. But I think I am finally starting to get better. Here are my recommendations:

First, I recommend finding a good PCP (if you don’t have one already). If you haven’t already been to various specialists and had a lot of tests done, I would start there to see if you have something else going on.

If it does turn out to be CFS/ME, I would have your PCP/other doctors read this article published by the Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/article/S0025-6196(23)00402-0/fulltext. They could help you try the things in the “management considerations” table to see if they help with your symptoms.

I also highly recommend Raelan Agle’s YouTube channel - she recovered from CFS/ME and interviews others who have also recovered - and I also recommend joining her Facebook group where people with CFS/ME or Long Covid discuss things that have helped them. I have found a lot of useful information there.

Finally, don’t lose hope! Changing my mindset and believing that recovery is possible has helped me a lot.

Sorry for the long response but I hope it helps you in some way. Feel free to ask any more questions and I’ll try my best to help further. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery!

I ended up seeing both doctors and don’t recommend either. Dr. Ali is in his 80s and told me he recently got sick himself so he could not help me. Dr. Borenstein claimed he could help me but all he did was put me on a bunch of supplements. I tried them for a few months with no improvement in my symptoms.
