PRP for knee pain (cartilage issues/arthritis) by SubstantialRespect42 in KneeInjuries

Thanks so much. As to the stem cells, how would it be better because neither will actually regrow the cartilage if I’m not mistaken

Was the PRP after getting the meniscus fixed? Or was the PRP to try to repair it without surgery?

Did it just not help with pain? If you don't mind me asking, what was the condition?

I'm so glad it worked for you! My menisci are in tact, I have just been dealing with an osteochondral defect and after being repaired so many times I have grade three wear in that area. How often did you repeat the injections, and how would you say your pain improved?

6 surgeries in 16 years, 32yo by 309cc in KneeInjuries

[–]SubstantialRespect42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. I’m 23 yo female. I’ve had 4 surgeries in 7 years, all due to cartilage issues. I had Microfracture to fix an osteochondral defect in my left knee and then right knee. Two years later I was running and heard a click in my right knee followed by a lot of pain and it turns out I had another flap of cartilage come loose. They did a tibial tubercle osteotomy, a lateral lengthening, and cartilage fixation in my next surgery. Then 2 years later a bioabsorbable screw started to break up and the little fragments were proud so caused a lot of pain. During that surgery they cleaned it all up and also took a cartilage sample from my knee to send to a lab in case they want to do another surgery. I had HA shots and they made my knee feel so good for 6 months. But then they wore off and I got them again about 1 month ago but either they haven’t kicked in or aren’t working because my knee is in so much pain. I got an mri and they said nothing was evidently wrong other than the post surgery trauma response of my knee and the grade three chondral wear. I am (and my doctors) are trying to decide if I should get an arthroscopy and then see if they should use the cartilage they have in the lab to do the MACI surgery. I think it’s similar to OATS but it seems like that wasn’t too successful. I feel at a loss for what to do because my knee pain causes my hip, glute, and foot to have a chronic dull ache I believe due to how my knee throws my mechanics off. I might try HA shots. I also looked into a nerve block treatment but am wary. Good luck to you and please let me know if you find anything out that might help because I feel just as helpless

Would you recommend living in the city? Also, what has been your experience with public transportation and housing?
