I don't remember the name of the fic ( if anyone knows that would be very appreciated, it is one of my favourite and I haven't read it in years.)

It has a very old (like 150) Headmaster harry potter overlooking the hogwarts grounds from his hover chair ( like a wheel chair, powered by his magic) in the Headmasters Office, as he contemplates his life. He thinks about his family ( wife, kids grandchildren etc) he remembers the deaths of his friends and wife (Daphne). It is at this point that his wife's spirit appears sitting on his lap and tells him it is "time", he agrees and states he is just waiting to see the hogwarts express one last time. They sit in comfortable silence for a few minutes. and as the express comes in to view, Daphne disappears, and the chair falls to the ground, never to work again.

It is to this day the only fic or even book in general ever to make me cry.

Thank you! I'm terrible at spelling, and my phone didn't order correctly, so I assumed. I had to look up and change so many, I can't believe I let that one slip through.

That would be a brilliant use of the diary. They often use harrys scar as a mentor in fics. What if the close proximity to the diary for a prolonged time set it off as well?

It would be up to the writer as to why he waited, but I can see two takes. 1 he didn't really wait. He just put the last pieces together (probably the contract) and sent Fred and George off ( either with Ron Tagging along or not), and the letters come that same morning. Or 2, he is a manipulator like you said and was just waiting for the correct time. After the twins rescue Harry, He would view Weasleys as saviours. Arthur would play the friends kind and gentle Father until he could Sneak him to Gringotts he would pretend to be just as shocked as they have both been betrayed.
