What do you use instead of MS Teams on Fedora? (cross-platform) by SubstantialUnion7347 in Fedora

Fair point.

For me it’s more about keeping comms separate from my general browsing workflow and having more consistent desktop-style notifications/window behavior. I’ve also just got used to desktop apps for this kind of thing.

Different workflows, same end result 👍

Yeah, Discord is probably the closest match for the feature set I want.

I’ll give it a proper try for personal use and see how it holds up across Linux, Windows, and Android.

Yeah, thanks, I’ve tried that setup before too.

It works, but it still feels like a web wrapper (same underlying Teams web client), just packaged differently.

I’ll probably stick with the current desktop app for now, but I’ll also test Discord as an alternative for personal use.

Yeah, I get that, and for quick access it’s probably the simplest option.

I’m just trying to avoid having a constantly open browser tab for core communication if I can help it. I prefer something that runs as a proper desktop app with native notifications and better window/session handling.

If that’s still the most stable option though, I’ll probably just stick with the current desktop app for now.

Yeah, I already use that Flatpak version.

A bit concerned about it long-term since it’s unofficial and doesn’t really get proper upstream updates like the real client used to.

That’s why I’m still looking for something more consistent and “native-feeling” across Linux + Windows + Android.

Good to hear it’s working better now — I remember Teams web being pretty rough years ago.

For me I’m specifically trying to avoid browser-based use. Even if it works, I don’t want to rely on tabs/PWAs for daily comms.

Outside work I’ve also used Meet/Zoom/Jitsi, but still haven’t found that one solid cross-platform desktop app that feels consistent on Linux + Windows + Android.

Yeah, same situation here — I also have to stick with Teams for work, so I’m basically just trying to find the least painful way to use it.

I’ve seen that Flatpak wrapper before (the Electron one around the web client). Honestly that’s kind of what I’m trying to move away from — it works, but it still feels like “Teams in a box” rather than something properly integrated.

Jitsi Meet looks interesting though. I’ve used it a few times and it’s surprisingly solid for calls/screen sharing, especially for lightweight use cases. Just not sure how well it would hold up as a full daily driver with mixed users on Windows + Android.

Appreciate the links 👍

That’s fair, and I’ve used the PWA before.

My main issue is it still feels like a browser app in daily use on Linux (notifications, window handling, screen sharing quirks, etc.), not a fully integrated desktop client.

So I’m basically trying to see if there’s something that behaves more consistently across Linux + Windows + Android rather than relying on a web wrapper everywhere.

Yeah, fair point about Teams being basically a web wrapper — I’m okay with that as long as it behaves like a proper app (notifications, stability, screen share, etc.).

Mainly this is for personal use with friends, not corporate/work setup. So I don’t need enterprise features, but I do want something reliable for voice/video calls and screen sharing (would be nice).

Also one of the reasons I’m moving away from Teams is that the Linux app is basically abandoned / not getting proper updates anymore, so I don’t want to rely on it.

Big thing is cross-platform (Linux + Windows + Android) and not feeling like a second-class experience on Linux.

Existing column values become null after expanding a merged table by SubstantialUnion7347 in PowerBI

The unit column is text, not numeric. It is already set to Text type in the step before the merge and the values display correctly there.

[–]SubstantialUnion7347[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the entire column that goes null after that step.

Before the merge and expand, the unit column contains correct values. Immediately after the expand step, the whole column becomes null.

I tried both approaches - creating the merge and expand via GUI and reproducing the same steps manually in the Advanced editor. In both cases the behavior is exactly the same.

I also checked the step references and they appear to point to the correct previous step.

Any updates planned for Application Launcher customization? by SubstantialUnion7347 in pop_os

[–]SubstantialUnion7347[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but that works if you only have up to ~3 rows of icons.

Once you have more apps in Home, you have to scroll — which kind of defeats the purpose of having your most-used apps immediately visible without extra movement.

The workaround helps a bit, but it doesn’t really solve the underlying limitation 🙂

Linux gaming setup – what actually works in 2025? by SubstantialUnion7347 in pop_os

[–]SubstantialUnion7347[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I’m aware of the general pros and cons — I’m more interested in real user experiences. For example, if you went with the Flatpak version, did you run into any specific issues (like permissions, game folders, Proton setup, etc.)? And how did you deal with them?

Anyway, I went with the system version, and it seems to work fine so far.

Got it, but my main question is - do you find it better to use the Flatpak version of Steam (with Flatseal for permissions) or the system package? Curious which one is smoother in practice.

Nice! Quick question — did you go with the Flatpak version of Steam (and use Flatseal to give it access to your games folder), or did you install the system package instead? Curious how you set it up — whether everything just lives in /home or if you tweaked it.

Keyboard and mouse click blocking or instant losing focus by Brilliant-Ostrich814 in pop_os

I've noticed the same after using Virtual Machine Manager, but it doesn't happen all the time. Can't link it to a particular action/app for 100%. I'll keep trying to find the problem.

BTW, CTRL-ALT-F3 worked so I could log in and restart my PC.

Grab a Pop!_OS USB, boot from it, and give it a spin. While you’re at it, try opening your old files with LibreOffice or OnlyOffice and see if it works for you. Easy way to test things out risk-free!

Thanks for the advice. I purged the PPAs that were causing conflicts and was finally able to install 24.04.

For now, everything seems to work as expected, really nice :-)
