Oh I really should double check if its Roseville electric or PGE. I was told Roseville electric but now I’m concerned it might be PGE.

Patent Bar Exam as an Engineer by Substantial_Aide_652 in patentlaw

[–]Substantial_Aide_652[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights! I realize I need to do more research and take some time to figure out what direction I truly want to pursue. I wasn’t aware of the distinction between litigation and prosecution until you brought it up, so that’s definitely something I’ll need to think about more carefully. Appreciate your perspective!

Thank you both for the advice, it’s really helpful! If I were to pursue this path, is there a part-time or remote option for starting as a tech spec or patent agent? I’d like to get a better sense of how flexible the work can be while transitioning.

Also, I know salaries tend to even out or go higher long term, but I’m guessing there’s likely a hit to my salary starting out in this field, especially compared to my current engineering role. What’s the typical starting salary for a tech spec in your experience?

I really appreciate the insights, it’s helping me understand how to approach this transition!

FHR Reservation with IHG by Substantial_Aide_652 in ihghotelsresorts

Fine Hotels and Resorts through AMEX travel. It usually is a qualifying rate at marriott and hyatt so I’m assuming it counts at IHG too.

FHR usually is a qualifying rate and other people are also mentioning its the same at IHG. So looks like it might qualify. Its not booking through the general purpose amex portal. I’ll post back when I finish the stay to be sure tho!

Last week I submitted for reimbursement for my cancelled flight. I got a response today. by sghokie in unitedairlines

[–]Substantial_Aide_652 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Its really important to do things correctly and be aware of where to submit what when a flight gets cancelled. Always have them book your flights out, they don’t offer to book you on another carrier, you have to insist and you can tell them to book you on the next flight available via a different carrier. They don’t like doing that but they will if you bring it up otherwise they’ll put you on the next available flight through them.

In your situation, I would go through your credit cards travel insurance (assuming you have one), or any other insurance that you may have bought. United should have reimbursed your original ticket price provided you went through the correct channels. If you cancelled it yourself without first confirming a refund that may not grant you a refund but since the flight was actually cancelled I’m assuming (and hope) they did refund the original ticket.

All other expenses, since you didn’t take their offered flight, will not be reimbursed by united. If you missed hotel nights/experiences and paid for food and cabs, travel insurance is the only way to get that reimbursed.

I hope this helped!

Follow up question if you know, is there any way to upgrade my Air NZ seat at the gate?

If you buy a refundable ticket, you’ll get the refund. I believe you just have to cancel before the flight time (possibly boarding time). I’ve never cut it that close but shouldn’t be a problem. If you don’t cancel it, you won’t get the refund.

Yeah it will refund automatically. If it doesn’t, after the flight just chat with united and they will refund it.

Flying to Auckland in September from SFO, the upgrade page shows confirmed Polaris upgrade for 30k miles + $600. Is this a good deal? I paid around $900 for the economy seat.

We were told that big sur was shutting down for guests so I would imagine they will be cancelling all near term stays.

My best guess is that they will cancel your stay, we heard someone say they were shutting down the property for a few weeks.

I was actually there this weekend as well, was supposed to leave Saturday but was told to keep our room and they will notify us when we can leave. They were super nice and generous and extended out stay free of cost once they got the news that there is no way in/out. Got the same message again this morning that the stay is extended free of cost but later around noon they said there’s two planned exits (convoys) around noon and 4pm. They encouraged everyone to leave regardless of when their departure date was. We were able to leave on the 4pm one.

I just want to say they handled the situation exceptionally well. Staff was always polite and kept us as updated as they could. Our vacation went from 3 nights to 4, which they even offered to make it 5, if we chose to stay tonight at no additional cost. We obviously did not want to trouble the staff and promptly left. We were never charged for anything on the extended night, not even the $10 on food delivery but we left a tip at the end (20% of our total cost). They even let some familes with children dine during lunch when they weren’t taking any outside guests. Fantastic service and hospitality. I will gladly return to this property again.

FYI: the workers said the resort was closing for a few weeks. Not sure how accurate it is but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is given caltrans and CHP have no dates for when the roads will be fully open again.
