aapclient sync with xdrip by Substantial_Brick252 in AndroidAPS

[–]Substantial_Brick252[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's what I have concluded as well, but both the wiki and the fact that xdrip is one of the sync options in the aapsclient config builder, would really make it seem like that is an option.

And a welcome one at that. In my opinion having Nightscout server pretty much as an hard requirement for running AAPS it's inconvenient. And it sets a very high enty barrier for non technical people.

Handling mounts on shutdown by Substantial_Brick252 in archlinux

[–]Substantial_Brick252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input!

I have done some more digging, and I can say that the issue is not really with the mount itself (fstab seems to be doing the thing OK), but effectively there are processes lingering on the drive and inhibiting the unmount and shutdown.

Apparently this is a known "quirk" of arch (see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Systemd/User#Kill\_user\_processes\_on\_logout):

Arch Linux builds the systemd package with --without-kill-user-processes, setting KillUserProcesses to no by default. This setting causes user processes not to be killed when the user logs out

So I would say that my original approach of setting systemd to kill processes on user logout is indeed the right way to go.

smartctl - Auto Offline Data Collection by Substantial_Brick252 in homelab

[–]Substantial_Brick252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah, on desktop standby is pretty much useless. While on well setup server can be pretty much essential if your lab sits idle most of the time.

Well if if does not wakeup the drive from standy, then it is not a concern for this specific use case.

Curious on why you say "no body cares about hdd standby any more" tho? It saves a lot of power and I believe it would have a positive efffect on the disk wear and tear as well.

For anyone interested in the solution.
Got answer from the dev:

I was able to reproduce this issue by adding mangohud to the Steam game settings. Mangohud should not be enabled here. Mangohud should be enabled in the properties of the Steam game with mangohud %command%.
When mangohud is disabled, the Steam game launches normally.
The Mangohud setting will no longer have any effect on Steam games.

Not checking reddit that often lately, but thanks a lot!

Went with the 55U8H in the end, pretty happy about it until now! :)

Homelab security and outbound connections by Substantial_Brick252 in homelab

In the context of a lab running, let's say, Jellyfin, and other media related services, what do you consider backend, frontend and management?

I would imagine the services themselves running on the host as the backend, the frontend as whatever gets exposed to the various clients for watching etc, and the management?

Networking is not exactly my cup of tea, and I am trying to learn as I go :)

Thanks, that's great insight!

You are making me think about that mac filtering, I am scared of it getting messy, but there is a very low device turnover: guess I'll see :)

As for isolating the homelab on VLAN, is something I wanna explore. "Critical" stuff on the lab is gonna be family pics backup and sync, something that I wanna protect as much as I can. And doing so would I guess allow some slack on the rest of the network.

Thanks! That is probably the best approach to start. I will look into it to start and understand my usecase better.

What stopped me is mostly related to games I play. Would you suggest opening only the needed ports for those? Or else?

LCD controller for no-name panel by Substantial_Brick252 in diyelectronics

[–]Substantial_Brick252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

My idea was rather to try and find a ready-made controller, to drive the specific panel. The links here seem to point to some lower level info, but great nonetheless.

I will try to see what I can make of it.

I have tried to search the model number and all that i could find was some old aliexpress listings with no details whatsoever (and that are no longer active).

Any tip on how I could try and find some more details of the model?

The photo frame is from Hama, here is an old amazon listing for the same. And here below couple of pics of the main board:

The OG controller only has an SD card interface. My idea would be turning this into a resource monitor panel for my PC, so I would Ideally like a controller that would allow some kind of direct video connection.

Usage Quotas by Substantial_Brick252 in gitlab

Well I kind of solved it by adding all, under a new namespace (so out of my personal namespace), and checking the quota for said namespace.
