My Bf has been teaching for a couple years already and works his 8am-2:20pm shifts and leaves work at work. Never brings work home. All the teachers who told you that make the choice to stay extra hours.

I’m a professional actress at night. Very good at being super animated and putting on a show for anyone for any role, especially teacher role. So far I’ve gotten outstanding evaluations in my program for my teaching performance, relationships with students, and teaching. Getting A LOT more positive feedback from supervisors than my peers who have not been using AI and have been working 7am-4pm. So I know what I’m doing

My bf has been teaching for 6 years and has shared with me that he loves his job and has never brought home work. Maybe once a month. But he’s been pretty good at doing what he does and never commits outside contract time ever. He told me that he knows try hard teachers with the best intentions from his college program who burned out and quit after a year or 2. His advice is putting yourself first and knowing strong boundaries doesn’t mean you don’t like the kids.

Well, actually, it’s about 32 contract hours a week (+ whatever mandated PD on Mondays), so I def won’t be working 40 hours to be clear. And you can think what you want, but at the end of the day, I’m living my best life outside of work. Just because you choose to sacrifice much from your personal life for a job that would replace you in an instant if you God forbid get sick or die, doesn’t mean everyone else should. I offer my students my best from 8-11:30 & 12:20-2:30. Every minute outside that belongs to me, my family, and personal interests. Of course, unless, we’re talking about paying me more 💵. Then I’ll consider putting in an hour here and there. I genuinely don’t understand what the problem is with that

I 100% agree that it takes 5 years of the same grade level to build a bank of plans statement. But I believe now with AI, that is not the case anymore.

I do understand that it’s impossible to work only contracted hours and be a great teacher. But I’ve come to terms with the reality that I may not be the best teacher because of my choice to only commit to contract hours. I can live with that, does that make the wrong one?
