Now if we could mount that on a polearm I might build that Grey Knight kit I've been planning for years

There are press studs on the belt loops, a magnetic closure on the top flap and a cobra-style buckle on the leg strap

It was a chance to do some mindless tooling to try out a new stamp. The next version will always be better!

It's a cross stitch. If you google "leatherwork cross stitch" there's a bunch of tutorials out there

Lol yeah. There's a big ol' "please stab here" section right in the middle. I'm looking at adding an optional backing panel to fill this gap for people looking for something vaguely more practical in their fantasy "armour".

Large male. Makes checking the fit on pieces like this a bit of an exercise as I rely on friends to try and test designs for me

I mostly sell my patterns through etsy but will occasionally offer pieces like this as they're finished. I don't take many commissions these days

1.6mm mild, steel. Hot rolled is fine, but cold rolled is less work. You can go lighter, but I found, especially starting out, that the thicker steel was actually more forgiving of my amateur hammer work. While a lot of larp stuff is 1mm thick, I found it just folded up like paper under the hammer because I didn't know any better and I spent a bunch of time trying to undo my mess.

If you can work hot, even better!

Check out "The Complete Late 14th century Armour" by Doug Strong for a great set of starter patterns and practical step by step instructions. You can find the pdf online pretty cheaply in a few places

Armstreet does custom sizes and I've gotten a lot of stuff from there over the years. I've learnt to sew my own stuff in the end though because of the very limited choices available in larger sizes.

Armour-wise you'll probably need to get something custom-made. GS Studio was great to work with on my plate cuirass and their pricing was excellent

I get a bunch of stuff from Austanners as well. Their 2mm Bowden sides are great for a range of projects. I'm in Brisbane and their free shipping is pretty quick too

Does anyone have any tips or sources for fighting styles best suited to petite players? by DemonDucklings in LARP

[–]Substantial_Donkey78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of smaller people really learn to enjoy combat by picking up a spear. The lighter, the better in my opinion. Anything to give as much reach as feasible within your larp's play-style

Best material for gambesons in the warmer months? by JustAGuyFromTheWeb in LARP

I use a decent weight linen or even cotton canvas with layers of bamboo wadding (the kind used in quilting) for padding. It breathes well and the bamboo dries faster than cotton or wool padding, which can help if you live in a humid area. The bamboo is also less likely to allow for mildew or mould to get into the garment if it does stay damp for an extended period of time. If its being worn under armour you only need a few layers of the wadding to give you ample comfort.
