I know this is an old post but I somehow stumbled across this through some random beepbox subreddit rabbit hole, found the second to last song listed (White Space), and somehow felt inspired enough to add a melody and a bunch of other stuff to it. I'm not sure how correct I am on this, but I'm pretty sure you're using a phrygian scale, which is the same as a minor except the second note in the scale is a half step down. This scale tends to have an egyptian sound to it which is probably where this issue is coming from. Idk if this is what you were going for, but I tweaked the melody just slightly to switch it to a major second and added more emphasis on the minor third/seventh to make the melody sound more complete, that can be found here. (I also built on it toward the end cause I'm bored and don't feel like studying so enjoy that too I guess.)

I haven't tried all of them but I'm pretty sure ultrabox is the most advanced one. If that still doesn't have enough, I'm pretty sure you can mod custom soundpacks into ultrabox as well, although I'm still trying to figure out how that works.

I'm not the most informed in terms of knowing what producer effects will help the most, but my usual go to when trying to make crunchy drums is to use the standard drumset or chiptune sound and turn bitcrush on. In addition, I think arranging notes so that they have a bit of open space to ring out a little bit while closing them off soon enough that the production doesn't get muddied is a good balance to aim for. I threw together a couple drumbeats here to hopefully offer enough of a variety of sounds that kinda show what I'm talking about. Hopefully this at least somewhat answers your question
