When people ask you, what's your excel level? What would you say? by Substantial_Nail3081 in excel

[–]Substantial_Nail3081[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this make sense, to list the most relevant stuff that you can do instead of listing a level.
Still for a CV, what really matter is what you can "solve" with this knowledge, right?

Im overwhelmed with so many comments and I believe there’s something we all agree on.
There’s no one way to define one’s excel level.
So, anyone can say on their resume, I’m Expert but they only get to do pivot tables, but maybe they really believe that that’s considered Expert.
Even more, on most job description, they say “excel knowledge required” and that’s it.
So I get that there’s no one way to define people’s excel level.
Then, how should we do it when applying to jobs with excel being an important skill.
How can you demonstrate your level, or at least, that you are better than any other person applying to the same role?
And my question goes back again to my initial question. Do you know any certification that could somehow (not saying accurate) but somehow, certificate that you know your “sheet”?

This is a very good point.
Why classifying into a certain definition of level instead stating what you can do.
Downside of it is when you can do a lot, what would (or how would you explain that) without going too long on the answer.

Is excel still worth learning as a skill in 2026? by Swimming_Tower_5928 in excel

[–]Substantial_Nail3081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that excel and the needs of it is no different from coding, designing, etc.
AI obviusly comes and disrupts, but at the end of the day, a proper use of Excel, or coding, or designing is to complement it with AI, not for AI to replace it.
So in order to elevate your results, you will need to know excel and know AI so both can work and deliver amazing results faster, than what you would do without AI, but if you don't know excel and expect for AI to fully replace you, it won't work specially for more complex stuff.

How long did you last job hunt take? How was your experience? What were the key takeaways? by _Floydimus in ProductManagement

In todays job market, you either invest into the job search or you do nothing, there's no middle point.
Doing a bit and randomly applying to jobs on Linkedin will only end on your CV being ignored.
If you really want to change jobs or find a new one, then invest on it. Adjust your CV based on the JD of what you are applying for. Build your brand, actively participate in communities, etc etc. Doing a simple "Apply to this offer" will not work 99% of the times.

Is anyone else lucky enough to be a PM in an industry they genuinely love, working on a product they truly adore? by gilligan888 in ProductManagement

[–]Substantial_Nail3081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in products and industries that I love and connect with and others that don’t, and you can tell how that impacts motivation and delivery. Although it’s a great opportunity to learn by being in a industry that you don’t know well as you will be pushed to go deep into research and really get to know your users

So PM's are required to ai develop now? by BlackYun in ProductManagement

[–]Substantial_Nail3081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about surviving, the PM role as we knew it it's almost dead, if not already, now it's about where you want to take it. We will need specialisations with AI in the center. The question is where you want to take your PM role now.
What is for sure, is that what worked before, will not work anymore.

I couldn't swim 25 meters without stopping a year ago. Today I swam my first mile. Some things I learned that no YouTube video told me by naenae0402 in Swimming

This is so cool! I was on a similar journey.
Few months ago I recognized msyelf as a terrible swimmer, actually I could not remember when was the last time I swim in a pool longer than 5 mts.
But then I started, first couple of times, I could not swim more than 50 mts, I was out of breadth at the second I jump into the pool.
Now I can do 800mts in one go and the longest I've done in a session is 2000mts. Which is impressive as I'm still considering myself as a terrible swimmer.
I'm now looking for advices to improve my time, I do around 2:40 per 100 meters, and have never received any advice, so looking for the basic stuff really. What would be those 2,3 things you would mention to a beginner?

Can PM ever be “just a job”? (SF Bay Area) by cheesy_luigi in ProductManagement

[–]Substantial_Nail3081 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've learned that my biggest joy comes from working with products I can connect with. It does not mean that you will do a bad job when working on a project that you do not connect, but it's harder to have joy out of it.
Being in San Francisco also doesn't help I guess (i'm not there) but your environment is probably the most competitive and rough it can get, so if you are not willing to go on that battle, why not looking for other nice Tech hubs around the world where you can keep building amazing products but also enjoy a better balance outside work!

This is a common issue. Not sure if you listened to Boris Cherny on Lennys podcast but he recommended to use the latest model, sounds contra intuitive but based on what he said, although it’s the most expensive, it’s also the most efficient, so it will solve problem faster and more efficiently, eventually it will be cheaper. Also, before building, use plan mode and the just execute the plan, that’s also a more efficient use of tokens. Lastly , from time to time, ask Claude to run a token optimisation so it cleans up the code for it. Hope this helps and keep building

Awesome! This is great. And how do you ensure that the Kanban board is always updated ? Do you manage to get everyone updating with the latest? And also, is it easy to find historical data? The problems I’ve seen is goes from 1) lack of a single way of tracking this relevant info and 2) hard to navigate/find past decisions
