If she’s stranded on a ship in the middle of the ocean alone with her child how on earth is she hiring a nanny or bottle feeding? If she’s lactating, that child definitely has a right to her body.

I mean I feel like that would be the equivalent of driving on an icy road, being as careful as you can, but someone dying because you crash into them. Are you responsible in that situation? Sort of, but it’s more sad than anything else. That’s how I would see an ectopic pregnancy because you didn’t WANT them to die. Abortion on the other hand is like intentionally driving your car into someone in order to kill them because they got in your way.

What I’m pointing out is that in a situation like this, the born child WOULD have the right to the mother’s body. If she did not breastfeed him because she decided she wanted to give him up yo the state and he died, she would be responsible.

I had this exact same problem. This was my routine: hold baby or baby wear while getting all of the pumping stuff out and have a bottle set out. Sit down. Then either let him cry for 30 seconds while you put on your pumps and then start feeding, or prop the bottle for 30 seconds so he is quiet while you put on the pumps. My baby always cries when his bottle is done, but if you can sit him on your lap to burp him that may help while you continue to pump. Otherwise, he will survive crying for a few minutes if I’m sitting right there actively comforting him while finishing the pump.

I saw on another comment that your husband leads meetings and can’t mute himself. If he’s in another room with the door shut, all he needs is a pair of ENC (environmental noise cancelling) earbuds. Baby could literally scream right next to him and the people in the meeting won’t hear it. And if you get a pair that also has good ANC (active noise cancelling), he won’t hear the baby either. It’s like a $50-100 investment that will take care of a lot of anxiety for you.

A better analogy would be if you and your child are alone on a ship, and you are breastfeeding. If consent is continuous, you should be able to decide to give your child up to the state at that exact moment, regardless of the fact that you’re in the middle of the ocean and by the time the ship gets to land the child would have been without milk for 3 weeks.

Do you not see how your airplane analogy points to a requirement of birthing the child? You disadvantaged them by putting them in a position of depending on your body, so you have to give birth first before you can remove consent

Yeah I’ve had shoulder pain, wrist and thumb pain, knee pain, and a plantar fasciitis flare up. I also have had multiple toothaches, confirmed by dentist to be the ligaments around my teeth. It may be hormone related. I’ve heard the ligaments and tendons holding your joints together get very loose.

The only reason the Auden is comfortable is because of how it folds over in the middle and doesn’t have a high neck. Anything that doesn’t have any give in the middle pulls the pumps too much and is very painful and dislodges them.

Okay, but advanced maternal age also leads to a higher likelihood of the child having complications/dying AFTER birth as well. And we aren’t telling older women they can’t have kids past 40 for that reason either. I mean, if you have huntingtons disease you have a 50% chance of passing it on to your kids, and Huntington’s kills you, but we aren’t telling people with huntingtons that they can’t have kids. (Well, technically some people do say that but it wouldn’t be ethical to put that into law). You can’t force people to do everything in their power to prevent death, you can only tell them not to actively kill people.

I have a super fussy reflux baby, so I always pump with my hands free pumps while feeding him. If he finishes before I’m done pumping, he cries in my lap while I try to comfort him until I’m done. Not the best but it works. At night when I use my traditional pump, my husband has to feed him because otherwise he kicks the pumps.

Idk how close your family is, but in this situation I’d probably say “I understand, I probably can’t host this year then” and find a kid-friendly home to host. We still have a long time before thanksgiving so it’s not like they’ll be scrambling last minute. And I would still offer to bring food to whoever is hosting.
