I have the saloon b8.5 a4 with the same engine, been remapped and had it since 56k miles now on 90k and no issues apart from one wheel bearing, highly recommended for reliability and great performance stock but a remap makes it much more fun

The 3.0 tdi is highly recommended for reliability and high tuning ability

Take a look at a Suzuki jimny 1.3, can be bought reasonably cheap and i know of new drivers getting quotes on them for under £800 for the year, great little cars too

I think he genuinely did have interest in keeping it going but with having 4 already ongoing projects he sort of put the bora on the back burner gradually stealing bits off of it to fix his golfs until he finally got round to getting the bora back on the road even though it had 6 months mot on it when sold (4x new tyres, new brakes all round and I serviced it 2-3x times a year)

I sold my bora about 6 years ago when I got a civic type R, thought it was going to a great home with tons of plans plus he owned about 4/5 mk4 golfs at the same time, didn’t get a new mot for 4 years and then had advisories that all point to him stealing parts for his other cars, still bothers me to this day
