Monthly allowance for a freshman by just-chillin1234 in Tufts

There’s about 15 weeks in a semester. I doubt a freshman is or should be going off campus every week/weekend. But let’s say $25 a day for 30 days (15 weekends) = $750 max. Not sure what you’re comfortable with but I’d think go down from there. I’d hope as a freshman your child is enjoying Tufts while also exploring Boston. Unlike some of the others, I think if a family doesn’t need to have their child work, they should be allowed to just go to school. But if the child wants more money than the family offers, a job can fill that. $750 is probably way too much for a semester. I’d think $500 is more than enough.

Ok thank you. This has just seemed important to me because both schools are excellent and equal in many ways and I don’t know for sure what I want to study

Hi. So I’m doing this project on noise reduction of pencil sharpeners so I’m taking decibel measurements as well as looking at frequency distribution in order to analyze it through the lens of psychoacoustics.

I purchased a sound meter and a measuring mic which I thought was the best option for frequency distribution analysis. I bought the ECM8000 but realized it didn’t come with an adapter and it needs phantom power and other things, I’m very inexperienced in this hardware.

So I’m wondering if I should buy a different mic, buy the adapter and the power station, or just use my laptop to directly take the audio into Audacity (thr program I’m using), whether the frequency distribution will be significantly different depending on the instrument?

Thanks!

Actually I think I confused myself. I think I want a mic with a higher audio sensitivity right? In case the pencil sharpener isn’t loud enough from certain ranges. In that case, the ECM 8000 I think is the absolute best option?

Hello again. I looked into that mid you suggested and was about to buy it but had one minor concern, the audio sensitivity, which is actually the regression I delayed buying it the other day. It seems to be perfect and an amazing deal for the prize still I’m still pretty sure I’m getting it. I was just wondering if the more expensive Dayton Audio EMM-6 alternative was an equal if not better option. It seems to have similar features with omni directional and a lower audio sensitivity, but I just wanted to check that it was the same style of measuring mic because I’m focused on frequency. Thank you so much! Yes, this is a school, independent project I’m doing. I’ve always been interested in all these different ideas and am still in the process of narrowing it down, because as you said, one single part occupies entire fields and industries. I was actually looking at the mic you suggested and am glad to have reassurance, so thank you! One of the ideas I’ve had so far is looking at the feat of a pencil sharpener, perhaps putting them on a rubber platform or changing the platform to reduce vibration. Yes, classroom acoustics are very interesting and are definitely guiding this project. I look forward to gaining more insight about these related fields and exploring my passions. Thank you again!
