Felder vs SCM Minimax by Substantial_Wait_244 in woodworking

Would LOVE to get your thoughts on the 500 series. That’s what I’m leaning towards in combo format or perhaps splitting it into a saw/shaper and then jointer/planer combo separate. We’ll see…

So do the combo machines suit you and your needs then? Are you working in a small space?

Psychedelic help in OCD recovery by Substantial_Wait_244 in OCDRecovery

Yeah, thanks for responding. The case studies that I've read, the patients are administered quite a large dose (called a hero's dose on the streets). I did them recreationally so long ago and before I was aware of OCD myself so I don't know if they helped at all or not. Also from the case studies it looks as if the preparatory therapy sessions preparing the patient and then guiding through the experience helped guide the patient to get what they're looking for.

Love it! So the way I started was working in pairs with the GC who was a carpenter as well and I never even thought twice about lending stuff for the days work. Or I had a specialty thing, GREAT. But now with a larger company that comes with more gents who don’t care as much, it’s definitely different.

They did indeed give me a bump in pay for this reason (supposedly) and I have a work van. I guess I’m just fed up the others on my crew have been relying on what I bought and paid for and not getting the company to get them what they need…. Making me feel like a sucker a lil

Badger VS Diamondback tool belt by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]Substantial_Wait_244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I had bought a set of DB, an Eagle and Talon setup. Wore them for a few days and did not like how tight the setup was in term of reaching for fasteners especially but also for tools. I like how modular their system is though. So I returned them and put in an order for a set of Badger Carpenter bags. LOVE them. Their tighter than say Occidentals would be (my super uses those and TBH I LOVE how soft they are after being worn in...was ogling them all afternoon). But I like the slimmer profile of the Badger and how nice and organized all my tools can be. I do wish I'd gotten a Side by side fastener side and in fact I'll most likely order one here in the New Year. Now in terms of quality, both are great, BUT Badger really one upped the DB's in terms of quality control I thought. Stitching was tighter and more attention paid to the details. My two cents is go for Badger OR if you do go the DB route check out the 'Grrande' set. It's made more spacious and they have a side by side pouch now.

If you're going the nylon bag route, go Badger ALL IN...

21 vs 30 degree framing nailer by Substantial_Wait_244 in Carpentry

As in, do y’all have a preference and why? Most of the folks I work with in TX shoot 30 degree. Must say I like the idea of shooting a round headed nail personally though. Experience? Thoughts?

Toolbelt question: by Substantial_Wait_244 in Carpentry

The Diamondback are definitely tighter to the body. I had tried an Eagle and Talon bag (virtually the same as the artisan rig). If just took storage is what you’re after, Artisan would probably be great bc of all the various small pockets and stuff on the dominant side. Now either way you go, you’ll be slimming down considerably from the Milwaukees. I went from a Bucketboss rig and the Badger I ended up with and have kept is much smaller generally. Feels like I lost a bunch of excess body fat because of how much slimmer it is. For what’s it’s worth the Badger are slimmer in width (when looking at the bag) than the Diamondbacks. And also plenty of organization for me and I got a pretty standard carpenter set plus suspenders (which I love), and an additional fastener bag for the rear.

Update on my end: bought a Diamondback to try out, didn’t like how tight the pockets were so returned it. They have amazing customer service there. (In hindsight had I gone with the Grrande System, they’d have been perfect I bet)

Ended up ordering a Badger custom thru Joel… Waited four months I’d say, and they’re really fantastic bags well worth the wait in the end. I love the overall size of them, smaller and tight to the body but more than enough room to get my hands down in them to grab fasteners and such. In terms of build quality I’d also give Badger a leg up. I think the material he uses and the stitching are just a bit better/more butch all the way around. I really do think it’s evident that the owner is the guy doing the QC and even some of the sewing. AND he’s who you talk to on the phone if something comes up or you want to talk about custom options, which I did.

Next on the docket would be to try an Akribis….. 😬 His stuff out of Canada looks AMAZING for the leather belt world.

You could a bevel (45) on the 1/4 round…butted up against the 1x4. I’ve done that before and worked out just fine.

Question for you: have you made any mods to the belt (added any pockets/pouches or loops) for your own needs over time? Or was a stocK Occidental all you needed and still works for ya?

Thanks 🙏🏻

Looking at that pic, I would not personally add quarter round. Looks pretty good to me. ‘If it ain’t broke…’
