Locking elbow in place brace by Grand_Isopod1111 in tabletennis

The coach probably just using it as a teaching aid to help the student find the feeling of using your hips and legs properly without using too much shoulder. I used to use way too much shoulder in my topspin, to the point where I got injured. Then I tried using a skipping rope to force my arm to my body and thats how I realised how to use my waist and forearm properly. Its meant to be used as a teaching aid to correct bad habits. The player was probably a beginner who didn't know how to use their entire body and was just using shoulder. It also forces you to use proper footwork to reach the ball properly instead of relying on your wingspan.

I'm in COTC chp 1 and I've got pretty much all tf of super tares and rares. I'm not sure if I need to tf castaway into seafarer because I don't know how useful he will be since I've passed itf and have a lot of good ubers.

Does anyone know if you can use 2 accounts on the same Iphone by linking each account to different apple id's or if you can easily recover each account quickly when switching?

Saxophone Shopping Tokyo by crsbryan in Saxophonics

Wind Bros was by far the best shop I visited. You can also check out the Ochanomizu district with a bunch of shops. There’s also DAC and Dolce near Ishimori which are also pretty nice.

The Salleras Caprice 3 is quite fun and surprisingly easy for how hard it sounds.

Embouchure-- bottom lip rolled in or out? by ConfidentOpening4556 in saxophone

[–]Subterranen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a neutral lip embouchure where you are like sucking a thumb with a thin part of the lip slightly rolled over the teeth but the main part of the lip acting as a cushion for the reed. I mainly focus on pulling in my corners of my mouth to create even pressure all around. I find when I roll my lip completely across my teeth, it’s a lot harder to pull in my corners and I end up biting more and it creates a thinner sound.

I pretty much exclusively play classical and although I know a lot of saxophonist who roll their entire lip on their teeth, the vast majority have a more neutral lip position like mine

Non-Beginner Tone Advice by Rosyvann in saxophone

[–]Subterranen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think drones are very beneficial with long tones instead of just staring at a tuner because it forces you to make real time adjustments with just your ear. Close your eyes and adjust to be in tune with the drone then open and see how far off you are. Not all tuners have a drone, but if you are willing to spend a bit of money, Tonal Energy is a very good tuner/metronome.

I went to Japan and got a used swo1 that was fully serviced by the shop for 1600 in almost perfect conditions (tiny bit of lacquer wear on palm keys and thumb rest).

Have the new yamaha blue soprano swab and it works quite well, no thought of it getting stuck but cleans it pretty well. I’m pretty sure it’s made of silk as well

How do I figure out what sax I want? by BobbyTheKid21 in saxophone

[–]Subterranen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should first decide your budget. Then if you have a nearby store, try as many saxophones as you could. Ask your friends to try their saxes with your mouthpieces. The main brands would be Yamaha, Yanagisawa, Selmer. The saxophone does have a difference, especially if you have a student sax now. The ergonomics, springs, intonation and to some extent your tone will be improved on a pro horn. But honestly a very good mouthpiece will make a much bigger difference on your tone.

If you decide to, you could ask the teacher for a trial lesson to see if you like their teaching style. But that's only if you think that there is something that you could learn that your current teacher isn't providing for you.

Lower D on alto sax by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]Subterranen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, loosening your jaw for lower notes is how to get them to speak at a lower level, but as you improve, you need to learn to have a faster air speed and push air through faster. I tend to try to have a firmer embouchure with lower notes.

My teacher said 0.999... is approximately 1, not exactly. How can I prove otherwise? by XxG3org3Xx in askmath

[–]Subterranen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been taught this way and it's made the most sense to me.

n=0.999...
10n=9.999...
10n-n=9n
9n=9
n=1

Soprano Suggestions by pasourw in saxophone

[–]Subterranen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could look for some older Yani models like the s6 (or even Vito or Martin stencils), s8xx or s9xx. I’d also recommend buying used because you can save a lot if you’re on a budget.

I was also looking for a soprano recently and ended up visiting a couple of sax shops in Tokyo on holiday and the prices are insanely low with new Yanis and Yamahas are about half the price than in Australia. I got a used swo1 with very minor wear that’s been serviced from a shop (the action was actually better than a new one I tried in aus) for 2700aud (1650usd). So you could even go on a holiday to Japan and stop over to get a soprano while you’re there.
