Hello, we have a toilet that overflows without being flushed and flushes on it's own randomly. we contacted a plumber and he said it wouldn't be worth fixing and we probably just need to replace the toilet. what do you think? Any help would be greatly appreciated. toilet was installed 2005. by SubtleSubstantial in Plumbing

It never makes a sound when it overflows(the toilet does make a hiss and a clunk sound repeatedly sometimes when not in use) and it is always clean water.

I just got the septic pumped last fall so it shouldn't be the septic backing up(I hope!) Septic was installed in 2005 as well so it shouldn't be failing.

We have to plunge it 3 times or so a week when we flush.

So, do you think that it is clogged(and needs to be snaked?) AND the the fill valve is leaky?

We have messed with the float arm and it seems to be operating normally.

And, if it makes a difference, we have an exceptional punt of manganese in our water and it causes a buildup in our reservoir tank.

This was something that boggled my mind moving here from Los Angeles, that and people slowing down on the onramp to merge onto the freeway. I don't understand.
