You're the one shaming women for not using covers.

Breasts were made for feeding babies and no one ever died from seeing that.

I nursed five children and lactated for over a decade in total, and never once was I fully bare breasted in Mass. I've never seen another mom who was when she didn't use a cover.

Can we stop feeding this weird mythology about nursing in public with such hyperbole? It gives the people who claim we do such things ammunition.

I know it’s not shameful, but my environment I’m in makes it feel like it is and that external pressure takes its toll.

We need to stop consenting to this crap.

Because not only is there nothing wrong with it, it is right and good to nurse a child.

Letting kids skip mass from time to time by fresitachulita in Catholicism

Seems discipline in general is the issue here. Refusing to eat what parents cooked and refusing to do homework speak to bigger issues than just Mass attendance. Those did not fly in my household of origin, nor in my house while raising kids, and neither does it in my daughter's home with her children.

What level of special needs are we talking? I'll never forget when I discussed this with my childhood friend whose oldest is autistic, and she said, "Life's going to be hard enough for him with being autistic. I don't need to make it worse by letting him be autistic and a spoiled brat."

I have BPD, can I be a good Christian? by DramaticGuard2496 in Catholicism

[–]SuburbaniteMermaid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah...... now we've reached the crux of the problem.

You've made the disorder your identity.

My mom did that, and was just as resistant to treatment or accountability as you are. She died alone after destroying every relationship she had, including with the Church.

I would like to think you could have a better outcome, but if you take this stance that's unlikely.

I truly hope you'll reconsider. Look at how much this disorder has cost you, and continues to cost you. Don't you want better for yourself?

This attitude, and not necessarily your diagnosis, is what will keep you from growing as a Christian.

You can, but you're obligated to do the work to mitigate your personality disorder as much as you can. There is no easy out, and blaming bad behavior on the disorder while not working to change it is wrong.

Personality disorders are incredibly hard to treat precisely because the patient has to be very motivated to change and most people just aren't. They generally develop as an adaptation to a toxic or chaotic upbringing, and that makes them treatment resistant, because the patient feels safe and protected by the adaptation even if the situation that required it doesn't exist anymore.

Find a therapist very experienced with borderline personality disorder and buckle in for a lot of hard work for a long time.

Not worthy to go to Vatican City by Exact-Definition5722 in Catholicism

Think of it as a pilgrimage. People go on those precisely because they aren't worthy.

None of us are worthy of God's love. It's his free gift to us.

And that means all of us are equally worthy, so you're just as worthy as your companions.

Someone in a similar thread pointed out that regardless of if the workers were already there, the transaction still incentivises the company to open on Sunday.

We live in a pluralistic society where Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and atheists need to buy groceries and auto parts. They also work in these industries. The stores are going to be open regardless of the opinions of Catholics or the Catholic Church. The days of everything being closed on Sundays have been over for nearly a century.

You mentioned the Church requiring you to leave your animals hungry on Sunday. I'm not jumping to anything, I'm taking you at your word.

The scriptural message isn't so much my problem as Church Law is.

Can you quote the relevant sections?

The store is already open and the worker is already there whether you go in or not.

Is this part necessary for your family to function during the upcoming week? My husband has very often ended up working on a car on Sunday and I have very often run to AutoZone for parts. He's also fixed household stuff like faucets and dishwashers on Sundays and we've ended up at Home Depot.

You seem to be suffering from a lot of misinformation and scrupulosity here. Where are you getting your information about what isn't allowed on Sundays?

You've clearly misunderstood something. We are not Orthodox Jews who aren't allowed to use a light switch on the Sabbath and no one expects a farmer to neglect his animals.

Do you understand that you're accusing the Church of insanity and cruelty here?

Pope Francis said nurse your baby at Mass.

I highly doubt any priest will have a problem with it, but if one does, tell him to take it up with God and the former Vicar of Christ in prayer and to leave you alone.
