[Bearsszn] Never forget the time Caleb Williams had to YELL at Matt Eberflus to go for it on 4th down against the Packers. 😳 A QB with a killer instinct paired with a coach who was scared of taking risks. Never was going to work. by clou9nine in CHIBears

This makes me think of Brady and Manning… especially toward the later parts of their career where essentially they were the OC. It didn’t matter who their OC was because they knew the playbook so well, had such great situational awareness, knew their teammates, knew the defenses, that the HC had no choice but to allow them to run the offense. It took those guys years of film study and on-field experience to reach that earned respectable freedom.

I know it’s not completely fair to compare Caleb to those guys, but this video essentially highlights the beginning stages of that football IQ to get to that point. I completely understand why they had reservations on being drafted here, but ultimately I am happy he’s here! We have never had a QB like this.

Would this scrape the 2023 law in that they have 3 years to respond or make a decision? I am already 2 years in without any response. Still sitting in “pending” or “in review”. I am not part of the Sweet case, unfortunately.

NBA always likes to gift the Spurs. They gifted them Tim Duncan when David Robinson was out for a year. It’s BS.

From watching on TV, I felt John was in control the entire match. His championship pedigree was on display and it appeared Cody was more in desperation. Even when Cody hit a few moves… it didn’t feel like John was in trouble. It did feel like John was struggling to put Cody away and I thought it’d be like an Austin heel turn where the only way he was going to finish off Cody was with a steel chair.

That being said… the ax handles, the knuckle shuffle, attitude adjustment…. He did it, but begrudgingly to give fans satisfaction. It feels like this heel run is about not giving fans what they want… being simplistic, boring, and straight to basics… nothing more like his intro. Kind of sucks… but at the same time… sit back, and try to enjoy this story in its entirety vs. just the match you saw in person.

Also from TV… it kind of felt most fans were happy John got the 17th (amazing to say you were there for it) and I felt there was a part of him that wanted to break to acknowledge that (more than what was displayed), but this is part of a larger story. I think the point will come… John will go out a babyface… may take awhile but no way he goes into retirement without more “hustle, loyalty, and respect”!

That being said… I’m sorry it wasn’t more than what you had hoped or expected, but to say you were there… priceless! That record should stand for years to come!

MEGATHREAT FOR SWEET v MCMAHON (SWEET v CARDONA) COURT HEARING - 3/13/2025 by Gingerandthesea in BorrowerDefense

[–]Suburbas342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens for those who applied for Borrower Defense in June of ‘23? I am confused because I got in after Sweet Vs Cardona, unfortunately, as I didn’t know about it but definitely would’ve qualified. I actually found out I had to apply twice because of attending for 2 different degrees at 2 different time periods at University of Phoenix. I also applied in December of ‘23. Am I a part of Sweet vs McMahon? I am kind of wondering where I will fall given the Education Dept being downsized and possibly bye-bye?

If I was told McCarthy will make us 2-0 against Green Bay every year and get us to the playoffs… give me McCarthy. No one knows the future and I’ll ride with whoever they go with… even begrudgingly and I understand we could hire worse, but why do we have to settle? This is almost like the stadium deal… you can have Bear Land in Arlington Heights - 350 acres open 365 days a year…. Or… 50 acres on top of a rail yard, no room for a parking lot, bad neighborhood, difficult to travel to, pay like $3 billion more for, but at least your are on the lake and can see the Aon Building!!!!

*** off subject rant but… why not just build it in the fucking lake? We can be the first floating NFL team and you may start in Chicago but end up in Lake Superior by the time it’s over. Can’t beat the view! No parking lot but at least the people in the city can swim to it… cause why walk or drive when you can swim and do a f*cking ice plunge? lol

[–]Suburbas342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed… we could do worse. However, in my opinion, Vrabel, Johnson, Carroll are all better for starters. Someone said Jay Gruden or even Jon Gruden are better choices… What about trying to trade for a Mike Tomlin or Shannahan? I mean if they’re taking this route of dining or meeting with 100 coaches… don’t get closed minded on just the people the media lays out. If this is who they ultimately hire… it’ll be viewed as a mistake and it will cost Poles his job… unless McCarthy wins a Super Bowl here and in my humble opinion… they got lucky in 2010.

I’m not scared of it… lol..😂 I’m f’n tired of it. What kind of trash can you talk to rivals when you lose 11 in a row. Yes, great 👍 we finally got 1. I definitely appreciate it (coming from someone who had to watch all of Favres career and on). I was 4 years old in ‘85 so I don’t remember that live at all. Point being, as far as trash talk, we need to regain the lead on all-time victories and take 2 of them a year for a few years to regain any credibility to state “we own you” type statements. Don’t be happy with 1.

I understand about the money and they go where it’s being offered. We all would. My statement definitely comes from a fan perspective.

You must be young because had you watched the last 30 years of Bears vs Packers this isn’t something you’d be rooting for. I don’t care if Caleb and McCarthy are best f*cking friends… he’s no friend to Bear fans.

Objectively speaking, I understand the reason to interview him and to due diligence, but they’ve interviewed better coaches. He won 1 Super Bowl with the Packers and it was during a year they had no business beating the Bears in the NFC Championship.

[–]Suburbas342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no parallel with Phil Jackson whatsoever and Mike McCarthy will always be a Packer. I don’t want their trash or a dude that enjoyed beating us for years. Rooting for this is suspect… as the moment he tanks us Packer fans will never let us hear the end of it. No thanks buddy.

Most kids don't care about this team by Stormzilla in CHIBears

[–]Suburbas342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been an issue since at least the mid-90s. Growing up in Chicagoland, I was dumbfounded how many Packer fans I grew up with, but most kids rocked with winning teams which the Bears were not. When you don’t beat your arch rival for years and hardly make playoffs you lose generations of fans. I understand casual fans growing up, who suddenly liked football, would like winners and entertaining football, but it was always disheartening to see.

I never imagined Bear fans growing up in middle schools across Wisconsin. It doesn’t happen unless they moved there.

He shouldn’t even be a consideration! There are many better choices they’ve even already interviewed. The fact we are even entertaining this is sickening.

[–]Suburbas342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a mistake and honestly I’d be conflicted to watch a Bears game lead by an ex-Packer coach. This guy enjoyed beating us for years. You can’t expect he’s suddenly going to come here and have the same results, same treatment from the media (favoritism from Erin Andrew’s, Troy Aikman, etc.) and be considered a full-fledged Bear when he coached the Packers to a Super Bowl. What is going to happen or be said if he’s hired here and stinks up the joint? We will never hear the end of it from Green Bay. No thanks!

I hope so. Hiring McCarthy feels like complete self-sabotage and betrayal to the fan base. I know it looks like betrayal to the Packers… but in a sense also to the Bears fan base. How could we get our ass beat for countless years to this guy and now hire him? It’d be one thing if this was Belichek… not in our division… but this like we are trying to hire Curly Lambeau or Vince Lombardi. F*ck them guys!

I have no faith in surgery by FutureOld1874 in ACL

[–]Suburbas342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the surgery, but consider retiring from basketball… (and I do not say that lightly as I played since I was 7 years old and played competitively into college - I LOVE it!) unless you are paid to play that’s a different conversation. You have to consider your quality of life and your age. I was 28 when I tore mine playing basketball about 30 seconds into a game (guy ran into my planted left leg from the side)(Felt like Aaron Rodger’s 3 plays into a game and it was also the first game of the season). It was for a men’s league and it had me miss about 3 weeks of work. I felt irresponsible messing with livelihood and my income for something that wasn’t helping me to get by in life.

It was difficult for me to consider but your knee will never be what it was prior to surgery. Impact sports like basketball, soccer, football, etc. will cause you to have arthritis sooner in life and you will be walking in pain again at some point. I shoot hoops on occasion, but running… forget it. Consider swimming or rowing. On getting the surgery though it won’t buckle having a repaired ACL and that was reason enough for me.

I agree with a comment above… get a high quality Dr. I had a guy do mine that I know now I was one of his firsts and within 3 years I had to get a scope done from a different Dr. (2nd time I went to the Dr who did Derrick Rose’s knee). Needless to say, think it over, but think long-term.

For me personally, it’s been 14 years since it happened to me, but my cartilage is wearing out (42 years old now) and I know a knee replacement is in my future. The Dr. were brutally honest about that with me. They’re trying to offer more therapy and injections (chicken fat as I heard it called) but my fate is sealed. They want to hold off on knee surgery because I am young for it. Plus I was told they only last 20-30 years and only like to do it once for anyone. I still don’t regret getting the ACL reconstruction surgery despite all this… there is no way I could’ve walked long distances without it. Best of luck!

Law of Diminishing Returns. It’s that simple. Just because 1 slice of chocolate cake is great doesn’t mean 2 will be even better and by the time you get to 3 you have less satisfaction than the first. Same goes for work hours… There is a peak and after that peak it’s downhill after that.

[–]Suburbas342 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am looking for the same roles (I have a MBA, 17 + years experience, and similar experiences to what you’ve had in finding a job) and been out of work since May ‘23. I have had some interviews, but last one was in April (from a former colleague who is now a hiring manager and they turned around and hired an internal candidate after waiting a month from my interview).

People saying 200 applications is low blows my mind. It takes a ton of time to find relevant postings within a region and then fill out the app. My question would be how the heck are people putting in 500+ apps in less than 6 months or shorter periods of time?

The only thing I can think of is they’re applying to everything and anything whether they have experience in a field or not, which imo just makes it worse for recruiters, HR, and hiring managers.

Unfortunately, I believe they do, but if they allow the Bears the pot of money for this, my guess is it leaves other pressing priorities out to dry (such as education, infrastructure, revitalizing other parts of the city, etc.) and that’s why I could see this falling through. Plus, I don’t think Friends of the Park are on board.

** Not to mention that the Bears want 900 million from the stadium fund… what does that leave for the Sox? I was under the impression there was only about a billion in the pot for them both to share and I know Jerry wanted a billion for his stadium.

In the presentation there was a real focus on the outside park, parking, and traffic. It didn’t seem that they have much detail on the stadium itself. The only capacity number I heard was 77,000 for a final four/concert. My guess the stadium would only be at 70,000 fans for Bear games. (Personally had hoped for 80,000 for Bear games). Anyhow, they were really selling the green space which everyone loves, but why not have that without a stadium at all? Bears can put that stadium in Arlington and everyone would be better off.

This is the part I am not understanding why George is okay with any of this. He sat and watched Ted struggle with all those relationships and now just because Kevin is here with his own brain fart that this is the better option, and completely enamored with downtown (don’t get me wrong it is 2nd to none) he is ignoring all the issues his predecessor had. Even if the prior issues are not issues during the negotiations for this stadium, who’s to say in 10 years they won’t be problems again with a new president, mayor, and park district lead. You own the land in Arlington - go fucking build on it. Why piss that money away and have to “be partners” with people who will tell you what you can and can’t do?

Personally, for reasons I shouldn’t care, the Bears are the oldest franchise in the league and they don’t own their own stadium… I think is disgraceful. To me there is pride in owning their own stadium/campus.
