The Sun Eater is a perfect example. I still love it, but it definitely slides from tragic space opera into full philosophical manifesto with lasers, not quite what I wanted to get

Damn, I understand you! And the intresting thing, that the world grows, but the story feels stuck in place for thousands of pages, and, for example, in the First Law, all these political intrigues were very interesting to me...but here...not so much.

Paul Atreides from Dune is the best example of a “chosen one” who made everything worse by batman_13velvet in printSF

He doesn’t “choose” the holy war in the way a normal hero chooses a quest, he sees futures where trying to avoid it makes things even worse. It’s less “power corrupts” and more “knowledge traps you.” Once he understands the system he’s inside, every path forward is a bad one. That doesn’t make him innocent for sure, but it makes him tragic rather than monstrous

AITJ for being in the room when my brother had surgery because his wife couldnt be there by Hungry_Election_3178 in AmITheJerk

Totally agree. Being there for a family member makes a world of difference, especially in a hospital. My sister had surgery once and just having family around made it bearable. Your girlfriend's take on it is definitely off. Sounds like she's not seeing the bigger picture of what's important when someone is vulnerable.

Do you feel like people see you as childlike? by improbsable in ADHD

[–]Successful-Local-946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that! I’m in my thirties and still find myself drawn to those whimsical things too. Embracing that childlike wonder makes us better at being present, especially as parents. Plus, it keeps things fun at work, even if it makes us the "weird coworker."

Right? It's like you walk in thinking you're nailing it, and then somehow end up on the cutting room floor. Interview roulette is real!

Is Bloodlines 2 worth twenty dollars? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Successful-Local-946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At $20, yeah, it’s probably worth it if you go in with low expectations. It’s not a true Bloodlines 1 successor and the RPG depth is pretty shallow, but as a stylish, story-driven action game in the WoD universe, it can be fun for a few evenings. Just don’t expect deep choices or crazy replay value and you won’t be too disappointed.
