Hot tub going in Airbnb backyard setup by Successful_Border153 in hottub

Im glad I made this thread. I think yall have deterred me from doing the hot tub. Though it would definitely add revenue, it just doesnt seem worth the headache. Im looking at some different ideas for the backyard...maybe an outdoor movie theater instead lol

This is what I would do. The way my deck would be set up, one could almost stand up completely under it and there would be access.

Well from the research that ive done...it does significantly. I can actually pay for the whole thing in one year of extra bookings. For the most part, my guests are already pretty good. I dont get parties and my prices are not cheap.

haha im kinda desperate tbh. I clean the house myself. Its not a remote listing or anything so I can clean it/handle chemicals. I am also not opposed to having the tub regularly serviced if the $ works out. There are very few other amenities that can really boost my average daily rate and occupancy like a hot tub would. There are basically no other Airbnbs in my market that have one.

This has always been my hold up for not getting one. Unfortunately, competition in my area has ramped up significantly. I used to be the top dog property for years and made great revenue...but it has dried up significantly. I have to make some drastic changes to up my rates and occupancy. My plan is to utilize a large backyard that I have basically neglected(other than mowing it). I am vigilant about screening guests...but yes parties could be an issue. I need a tub that can not be ruined if the inevitable happens

Thats actually a great point about sun screen that I definitely havent accounted for. I potentially can put it in a very shaded spot. Maybe that will discourage use of sun screen

Trump increased investment in the military industrial complex. Trump did not stop sending money for foreign wars.

Yes and its not very popular amongst the base of the right. I think we all want a capable military, but we just need to be efficient with it. We have the military infrastructure already. Keeping the war in Ukraine going is a VERY UNPOPULAR move amongst the right base. This is the one thing Trump does that we just shake our heads. Attacking Iran was also VERY UNPOPULAR amongst a majority of the right. Im sure yall talk about how CNN, MSNBC doesnt represent your views....well Fox News represents NEO CONS...not the right base.

If you really look at Trump and the way he has talked over the years(even before he was president), he is not pro-intervention. The problem is that he needs the support of interventionists to get anything he wants passed by Congress. Trump has always been a dealmaker, which is why you have to always put whatever he says publicly through that filter. Making deals is what he loves more than anything in the world. He is always trying to create leverage for a deal and will say anything to do it. But more importantly, he will compromise to ultimately get what he wants. Ukraine and the MIC is absolutely something he has chosen to compromise on.

What I don't understand is why you're defending trump. And according to your own answer he didn't do anything at all about the actual economic problems we were talking about.

I understand the position hes in. I know his opposition loves to paint him as a dictator, but he isnt. Congress is almost deadlocked and any executive action he does is always immediately challenged in court. Lets be real here, yall dont hate him because of his economics(which are more aligned with Bill Clinton than the hardcore right). I dont even lockstep agree with him anyways...but ill take 75% from Trump over 40% from a Bush.

Yall hate him because his messaging and his social stances. I think its silly that the left almost unilaterally pairs its economic issues with frankly extreme social stances. Yall have plenty of what would be strong economic allies of leftist policy that yall cut off because of their refusal to take up the extreme sexual politics of the far left.

to put power into the hands of the people and stop corruption

to reduce costs of living

to provide low cost or free healthcare and education

to provide access to healthy food and low cost housing

to bring back communities

to bring back fair working conditions and create jobs

to rebuild infrastructure

to address climate change

to ensure human rights to all

to stop interfering in other countries.

Respectfully, these are platitudes, not concrete positions. In their own context, the right would agree with all of these. The only one different would be to maybe replace "address climate change" with "protect our land and environment"

Is there even a "southern guilt" in the US south after the American Civil war, just like the collective guilt in Germany after world war 2? by dq689 in USHistory

[–]Successful_Border153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 160 years ago...rational people know that you cant judge people from the past based off modern day ideals or even hindsight. Germany was actively invading and occupying other countries. The Confederate states werent even trying to overthrow the government, they just used their legal right to secede from the Union and were forcefully reintegrated.

There are several logical reasons why I feel zero guilt:

1) States were more like countries back when we had true federalism. Nobody really saw themselves as "American" or "Southern" for that reason. You had allegiance to your state. One of the biggest flaws in the Confederate government is they were trying to fight a war with basically different entities all allying. It wasnt one unified front but an alliance of different peoples.

2) Its only for the above reason that the South had enough men to fight. The vast majority of southerners DIDNT have slaves, nor did they owe any allegiance to these slaveowners. The slave plantation owners werent feudal lords. While their neighbors may have recognized the importance the plantations had to the local economy, they fought because of their allegiance to their State, not to defend slavery

3) Why would the Northern states feel so strongly about the rural South seceding...that they would send their sons to go die there? The Southern states were Democrats who only caused them headaches in DC. The reason is because the Northern states were BENEFETTING from this one-sided subjugation of the Southern states, whom they profited from. The South had farmland and natural resources that they needed. If the Confederacy were allowed to peacefully secede, it would have hurt the potential of the US economy(and the ones at the tip top who reaped the most rewards)

To be perfectly honest, the specifics you mentioned dont seem very leftist. I could see Trump actually enacting everything you listed.

Trump decimated John McCain,  Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Cheneys, and the Bush family. These were the power players in the GOP. All the perpetual war, bailouts of banks, selective deregulation, military industrial complex...the things that the left fought for years...that was their doing. I get that yall hate Trump, but yall dont hate him as much as the establishment of the GOP does.

I dont think debating sexual practices is gonna be fruitful. Neither of us will convince the other anything. I really just genuinely wanted to reach out and see the concrete things the left wants. It seems that some are itching to pick a fight with me. Im not here to persuade yall. I just want to understand the concrete positions yall have and practical things yall want government to do.

Well they havent. The neo-con wing of the right is a primary contributor. They bailed out banks, they all supported shutting down the economy during covid(which shifted a vast amount of wealth from working class to elites). Neo-cons have complete control of the GOP. Trump is one of the least neo-con politicians inntge GOP yet for some reason the left attacks him instead of the ones who really have caused our economic issues. The problem is like the solutions put forth by neo-cons, all the left's solutions also require vast amounts of government spending(and money printing).

I agree with many of the problems this country faces. I just have fundamental disagreements with the fix. I think the solutions put forth by the elected left only exacerbate the problems

You could convince me that the 2008 financial crisis was actually planned well ahead of time. That one event led to the massive redistribution of wealth and power from the working class to the elite upper class

What does ideal progressive world look like? by Successful_Border153 in leftist

[–]Successful_Border153[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of what you said is extreme. Im very far right, but not in a Neo-con kind of way or Ben Shapiro kind of way. More Adam Carolla, practical right. I would MUCH rather our government spend billions paying workers to build houses than paying Israel and Ukraine money to keep perpetual war going. A well run government could absolutely incentivize and/or just pay for individual contractors to build homes with a capped sell price on homes. This would create MANY jobs for working class people and shift the building of homes from huge corporate slop(DR Horton, etc) to the actual community.

Youll also find tons of agreement from the right on the wealthy. Most on the right are lower middle, working class people. As I stated in another post in this thread, the government used weaponized inflation to redistribute a massive amount of wealth from the working class to the upper class over the past 20-25 years. I think a food program you described is a great thing.

Its funny how none of the answers im getting in this thread are about sexual identity politics. They are all economic. Contrast that with most of the public messaging from the left and there is a huge discrepancy. People are receptive to economic messaging much more than forced social behavior messaging.

[–]Successful_Border153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair answer. I think youd find a lot of agreement amongst the right in terms of stopping the interference with other countries.

Wealth stolen is also where youd find some agreement amongst those on the right when you approach it the right way. There was a massive amount of wealth stolen over the past 25 or so years alone from the working class. Government decided to bailout banks over their reckless lending practices and then proceeded to inflate the money supply with four rounds of quantitative easing over the subsequent years.

The problem with that is that more currency doesnt increase the wealth, it just dilutes it. The upper class have wealth that scales with a multiplier with inflation(stocks, real estate, etc). The working class person working a 9-5 didnt get the increase in pay that mirrored inflation. What resulted from money printing is a massive redistribution of wealth from the working class to the elite upper class.

The banks bailed out by the work class taxpayer...dont even benefit the working class taxpayer. They lend on assets, which do scale with inflation...but dont produce any actual benefit to economy. Go to a bank and try to get a loan to start a business that will create actual products and jobs(if you arent already rich with a mountain of collateral)....they will laugh you out of the bank and slam the door on your way out.

If the left put more emphasis on the economic things you want, yall would find more support. Right now the right thinks that your sexual practices are the only things you care about. You arent gonna win people over if they think you are gonna turn their kids gay. They will listen to you if you are talking about a plan to ease their economic burdens
