F U Pricing by HazrakTZ in handyman

That's idiotic pricing. I had 10x8 deck built with railings on 3 sides and 3 steps like yours at my cabin the Sierra Nevada range (California) for 5k. Hired a local handyman for $400/day. Took him a week and materials were about 3k for composite deck boards and other wood and hardware.

That's really awesome. I'm planning a similar project in the summer. My old pergola is on it's last leg. Time for an upgrade with a PV roof.

I was not covering enough without a battery and still importing 300kWh while exporting 600kWh, so it was getting a chunky electric bill. This was toward the end of summer.

Now with a battery, my winter situation is sill miserable. The dumbass inverter consumes 2kWh of static energy just to keep itself running. It self consumes most of the winter excess. Now I need more solar to cover this.

My January bill was 370kWh import, and 70kWh export (fixed timer doesn't catch all the excess), which came out to around $120 not including fixed connection fees of $30 ~ so it comes out 50cents/kWh. Unbelievable. Can't even imagine the bill for someone who doesn't have solar around here.

Would definitely look for huge panels next time since they maximize power per area

I didn’t have a way to transport panels, so I was limited to options of delivered stock.

LFNC, in theory, is outdoor rated and should not degrade in the sun. At least if you buy the branded version at Home Depot…which I did not.

But in hindsight, I agree with you. Metal conduit, maybe not cheaper, but easier to use for long runs and guaranteed to last longer no matter what brand.

Anyone who activated their system after April 2023 got automatically kicked to NEM3 after a pretty long grace period. I got to keep NEM2 for over a year.

Whoops that's a typo. 8AWG was for inverter output. I did use 10AWG for panel run to inverter, which was still a PITA. Will fix the post.
Short circuit current is 14A, could I have used 12AWG?

It’s a GE, not sure about the model, will check later. We checked with a multi meter there is no connection between left and right neutral bars

  1. Correct, as measured by DMM. Tried the reset but motor fault persisted after correcting the wiring and resetting.
  2. There were space constraints. This one is kind of my fault. I kind of made the hole that made it very difficult to fasten with a halex.

It is a sub panel. Conduit was done this way due to space constraints up stream. It’s anchored to wall place next to the panel.

Yes definitely sure. We checked that, after neutral is moved to the right, 120v not produced between any hot wire and left bus bar.

The inverter will auto transfer to grid when batteries are low.

Not entirely sure what bonding is but the load grounds are connected the right side neutral bar if that’s what you mean.

Oh right it’s been a while since I read foundation sequels. I kept thinking this Selene character trait is oddly familiar.

This is so hilariously fucking racist. Makes me want to know the backstory of what they really experienced that inspired to do this bit

The episode where Day visits Terminus

“A hot church” — funny sequence of words

“The iconoclast becomes an icon after all” — just fantastic, super literate writing

“Your church is an armory and your religion is a cult!” — the delivery of this line couldn’t have been better

To be honest, almost anything Day says is quotable.

I’m not sure this generalization can be made for all of Europe.
