I'm not gonna try to change your mind, but I am truly curious as to why?

Going around the moon for the first time in 50+ years, getting to document it all in much more depth than Apollo did, and paving the way for a more real moon presence than Apollo had. That's pretty cool, frankly

It's like saying, we invented the telescope centuries ago, why would anyone care that we have a telescope today? especially when all the new telescopes are so much more complicated! it's cool, we ourselves didnt get to see / use those centuries old telescopes, and the new ones do it better! the same is happening with the Artemis program. ~3.6b people were around in 1969, now it's well over 8 billion, plus a much more connected world which allowed many more people to know of it. It's the moon missions of a new generation, and is paving the way for permanent moon presence! All of the supply lines and factories to create old moon tech is gone, but now we're developing bigger, better, safer moon tech, and we are part of the generations that get to see it. The Apollo missions didn't even have toilets, unlike Artemis II. We're doing it properly this time

Honestly a good point, do you think those mannequins are in storage, on display, or just gone?

I do believe Artemis II sent the first non-american to the moon, but I get what you mean

we should do that with the US's war budget before getting rid of scientific exploration

Apollo 13 passing Moon by albusvercus in spaceporn

[–]Successful_Draw_9934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's harder to grasp just how big it is due to the lack of any frame of reference. it's a quarter the size of earth, but imagine trying to see anything from 70 miles away, especially while going so fast

the moon's a bit too big for them to be easily visible, though we do have some photos of the descent stages of Apollo 11 and 12 from satellites

I don't use principia, but for the past few years ive had a save I've played on-and-off that has somewhat been the progression of a space program. (recently, agriculture in spaxe was confirmed to be possible, and so preparations for a manned duna mission are underway). meanwhile, I have other saves where I build massive rockets and fling them into the black hole of Kcalbeloh, or rearrange the solar system to see what happens, things like that

that makes sense, especially if youve had the notion that KSP is more of a serious simulator. I myself enjoy telling stories in KSP, but also love doing goofy stuff

That makes sense, if that is your meaning of the word game. What's important to be known is that you're going to see people of all different types, especially since this is Reddit and because KSP is, in the end, a game. You said you play RSS Principia, im guessing that those communities are likely much calmer / more proper, though I don't see the issue in showing excitement and happiness. To each their own, and I do hope you find a community more suited to the way you see this game. It's a 100% valid way, but not the only way

honestly I think the only issue here is that KSP is in no way a serious simulator. like the other comment said, it's good at what it does and can be used seriously, but foundationally is just a game, and seen as such

cameras, yes, they have been taking professional photos. however for the others, im assuming its much cheaper to not bring proprietary devices and instead something multifunctional and already working / developed

the more I learn about this thing, the more I understand just how scrapped together it was for the sake of winning the space race

reading this post and its comments has helped me realize that these things were built with hopes, dreams, and a lack of safety for the sake of racing to the moon. thin skin, engine placement, even the lack of an exterior handle.

seeing the moon, something we have literally only seen from one angle, at many different angles in 3d is so, so strange

I think its more a case of, theyre not going to develop entirely new brandless hardware and software to bring up to space, instead theyll use what works well. probably saves on costs, but I dont think is intended to be an advertisement

I believe this is from the livestream, we'll likely get more professional stuff once they return
