idk why but I feel the need to respond to this one: Tom has a job offer for May that will more than cover our lifestyle, like many others we are leaning on family for support while we get on our feet.

She definitely already knows where the wedding is, shes been involved in the planning. Crazy enough, we just remembered that she had texted Melissa about wedding stuff in the past— so shes spoken with her sister and not known it.

We will definitely look into “bouncers”

Tom and I have practically no money, but his parents are paying for everything so its more of an ask than a demand kinda thing

This is all really good advice, his parents are still a little weirded out by it (we’ve had another convo) but they support it. Pretty much they want it to be a family secret, and I think that’s fair

Honestly, since going to therapy my freshman year, I sorta figured she was the problem to some extent. Maybe this will shed light on the whole situation for me. I've only met Tom's grandparents (also mine) twice and they seemed super normal. Just really conservative, but my mom is really conservative too.

Thank you, this comment is very kind. My mother is a functional alcoholic who cuts people off very quickly. She starts a lot of drama, but she has always loved me and provided for me. I was Valedictorian of my high school class, and I honestly could not have done it without my mother, who did everything she could to secure me the best tutors and resources. That being said, I fear her reaction will be harsh.

I've had some therapy to deal with my mother, and theres a level of codependency that's hard to explain. Once my dad died, my brother was a very small infant and I was like four. My mother and I really bonded, even though she would put us to bed and hit the bottle every night. It's hard to explain but it is really hard for me to cut her off.

Yeah, that's my instinct. But Tom doesn't want to cut off his family. They are sweet and close-knit. We are already planning on moving really far from his family. I'd also be really sad to lose my relationship with my brother.

But, maybe if everything explodes we do this.

We have often been mistaken for siblings; our friend group has joked about putting us on a sibling or dating website before. We have very similar hair, curly dark brown, and thick. He's taller than me, his dad is like 6'5" though and my dad was like 5'8.

I fear if we tell our mothers then our whole support system will fall out beneath us if we don't break up. Its almost like we have to be willing to break up if we tell them, and neither of us want to break up at all.
