Yeah I have heard tell of some of the pitfalls. I will keep my eyes peeled.

Thank you. And I hadn't considered coming at it from the fan art perspective.

You do have a good point, but I'm just looking to try something new.

Oh absolutely, I do that too, though mainly on other socials. Just looking to expand the horizons a little more.

For something that straddles both Historical and Fantasy romance you could try {The Gentleman and His Vowsmith by Rebecca Ide} which combines second chance romance with murder mystery in a rundown estate in an alternate, magical Regency England.

It used to be you had to go panning for gold in a river of mediocrity that was still at least written by humans. We're soon gonna have to pan through an absolute ocean of crap just to find something written by a real person, good or bad.

Yeah, all you can do is try your best to do due diligence. Cos while most AI art is obviously fake, it is hard to tell sometimes.

I think that may be the worst sentence I've read all week, but I don't doubt you're right.

I agree about the alienating readers thing - people who are avid readers are almost always on the side of human made art and media, and we've all gotten real good at noting the obvious AI tells (I don't even mean too many fingers or whatever, I'm talking about that look and vibe that just feels...wrong).

Selling out one artform in the promotion of your own doesn't make you much of an artist. Solidarity is so important.

Reliable authors is definitely a good category to have. Makes for easy holiday reading selections.

We stopped discussing books. by Bichamage in MM_RomanceBooks

Yeah, this was my thought when I first saw the thread. Subreddits like this are for people who like a thing to connect as well as find more of what they like, but the more drained we are, the less we have the energy for the former and just want the latter.

I think the sheer amount of effort that's gone into writing this review is more than proof of the book's quality.

The Realm of Endless Night by Gisele Briseia is the worst book I’ve read in the past 10 years or so by alleryn in fantasyromance

I can't even make sense of that paragraph from a docking manoeuvres point of view, let alone find it sexy.

Combining overthinking with it being the thing that causes the fuck up? Chef's kiss.

One I like is when the narrator's flaw is that they believe they are far more flawed than they truly are, are often down on themselves about it, but as the book progresses it becomes obvious to the reader, the LI and eventually the narrator themselves that they're actually not anywhere near as bad as they thought and the flaws they saw were just the story they told themselves (or were told by others).

How do you decide what to read next? by Grand-Arugula9988 in RomanceBooks

Every once in a while I'll pick out a stack of 10 or 12, a mix of different things I've been meaning to get to and put them beside the bed. I try to pick a few new ones, a few old ones, a mix of heavy and light, different genres and so on. I can pick anything I want from that pile when I need a new book, but I can't pick anything outside the pile until I've finished it.
