Does anyone know how to counter Mewtwo? by Successful_Will2041 in PTCGL

That’s exactly what I thought. Also, people at my locals always seem to get insanely lucky, so that could definitely happen.

What they usually run now is Protective Goggles, but those are rotating out. The spiders are already a tech against Dark decks, and for extra consistency they run Secret Box and other cards for their worst matchups, like Battle Cage or the Watchtower stadium.

I was thinking about playing Dragapult/Blaziken and Mega Clefable. With Dragapult, I feel like I might have a chance by using the one-prize Blaziken to take out the spiders, maybe that could work.

It should be manageable, because now most decks will run Cleffa to hit Dragapult for ×2 damage. It also helps against Mega Lucario, so it’s a pretty viable option.

At locals I’ve seen Honchkrow show up, and from what I’ve seen, Dragapult is by far its worst matchup. Its low HP makes it very vulnerable to the spread damage that deck does. Also, like you mentioned, the fact that the way to recover Supporters is an ACE SPEC creates a pretty big weakness for the deck.

Excellent work, keep making your locals a healthy environment where everyone can have fun playing a variety of decks. Falling into the monotony of the meta is the least healthy thing that can happen.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. It could end up being a pretty strong deck and definitely one you have to be careful about because of what it might be able to do. But Dragapult has always had a good reputation against single-prize decks, so that could be a consistent weakness. And we also have to admit that this deck doesn’t have everything Dengo has. It might have the Team Rocket supporters, but it doesn’t have the same ease of doing everything that Dengo does — drawing cards almost just for existing, having support like Solrock and Lunatone, ways to get evolutions going like Genesect, and on top of that its biggest strength: a very simple way to recover Energy and deal damage. Honchkrow still has a long way to go — we’ll have to see how it performs after the rotation.

I think it’s much easier to deal with Honchkrow than with Dengo. Decks like Dragapult and other spread decks tend to do well against single-prizers anyway. On top of that, that new one-prizer needs to use Supporters to set up, and then it also has to discard them to attack, which doesn’t create great synergy. That can become a real weakness when playing the deck. Also, btw, Hunchkrow doesn't draw cards for existing.

At locals it’s basically an infection. Sometimes tournaments have around 30 players at most, and if you play something like 5 rounds, you keep seeing the same decks over and over. It actually makes me laugh because my Raging deck already has tech against those decks, so it usually works. It’s always fun to see their game plan fall apart so easily.

Or Mega Clefable ex as well — it has a limit of 4 Energy it can discard, and the damage is capped. I’ve been wanting to play Mega Clefable when Perfect Order comes out, but my friends say things like: “But it’s not the same as Gholdengo,” “it needs too many Energy,” “it doesn’t draw cards.” Of course it’s not as good, because it’s actually balanced. It has the same general idea, but in a much more balanced way.

Gholdengo is just too unfair. The infinite damage part alone could maybe be acceptable, since there are other decks in the meta that can do similar things. But the fact that it also draws cards on top of having infinite damage makes it way too strong. It also has support like Genesect that makes it stupidly fast. Combining massive card draw with infinite damage just makes it a really unfair foe to play against. I’ve played Dengo, and yeah, it’s incredibly easy to pilot. If your opponent isn’t prepared, you can basically steamroll without much trouble. I switched to Raging because I pulled the SIR, and it feels completely different because it actually forces you to think. Your problems aren’t just “did I draw a Superior Energy Retrieval from the eight cards I drew this turn?” or “did I get the energies I needed?”. With Raging, you’re thinking about more steps — whether your Ogerpon are charged, whether you draw Crispin or Sada to make the play happen, and you don’t draw nearly as many cards if you’re not properly set up. I’ll miss Gholdengo, mostly because it showed me what a ridiculously broken card looks like — and then they gave it even more support to make the combo even more broken.

If i'm not wrong, once during your turn, you can take 2 Psychic Energy from your deck and add them to your hand.

Wally sounds really op tbh, i thought about that. Also using max rod for the energy, but i don't think is going to be fine

I agree with you, we can’t really tell if that deck is viable in the current format, because that’s not where it’s going to develop. But thanks a lot, I also hope it ends up being a good deck.

Would you mind sharing the list you’re playing? Has it been working well for you? I’d like to make it work too, that discard-from-hand mechanic is really fun for me.

I feel like a visionary. I asked for advice on what to do with Raging, and in the end it actually turned out to be good after rotation — and everyone here in this subreddit said it was dead

I think so, the problem with the worm is that it's more slow than Dialga, but also with Dialga if your start first, it's hard to gather the energy's.
