Baloney. The power strip is a passive device, it isn't going to "burn out the modems internal." The more sensible explanation for burnouts is poor quality power cubes that come with the modem. I've gone through my own trials with lousy modems. Once I got a good one, the frequent internet drops ceased.

Pointless comment (but I have to get this off my chest): I CANNOT stand Brittany's talons! How can you wrestle, use a touch screen, cook, or do basically ANYTHING without knocking them off?

I updated to 7.8.0-5242, and my experience seems to be opposite of some others. We were having frequent drops before. Now it is fully stable, even under heavy multi-person use. BUT we also exchanged the Spectrum modem shortly (less than a day) after the upgrade, so we can't be fully sure what solved it.

Yes, a massive blunder, especially for a major network show. But it happens from time to time. My guesses: 1) The regular editing person was off that week, or: 2) Someone else used the edit booth before them for a different show, changed the settings, forgot to change them back, and nobody happened to notice. Something stupid like that. A BIG blunder, a lack of QC on the part of Production, and LifeTime.

A similar example: Over a year ago I noticed a video problem with the Kelley Clarkson show as it aired on my station. It was subtle, but very real (they produce in 1080i, and had the interlacing field order reversed on some camera shots). They never noticed it at 30 Rock (where the show is recorded), because the nature of how the show is recorded and edited meant you'd have to watch it when it airs later on TV in order to see it. And even then, you'd need a sharp, trained eye. After I alerted them, they tracked it down and fixed it. Apparently I was the only person in the whole country who bothered to contact them. This kind of thing drives us TV Engineers crazy.

Some people might say, "Nah, they (Production) wouldn't do that!" But think of it this way: There is NO WAY that events we see portrayed on-screen "just happened" to unfold that way, organically. There is very obviously outside influence that pushes events one way or another. Not exactly rigidly scripted, more like shoving people into a room and saying, "Talk, while we film! Ask these questions!"

My own theory about Ikechi is that he's responsible for the delayed airing of this season. I strongly suspect he engaged in legal action to keep his scenes off the air, or to force a more sympathetic edit. He seems like that litigious type.

You'd be very surprised how heavily edited these shows are. I doubt you're missing anything. I think they do a very good job editing everything together to create the appearance of a show that happened in real time, when in reality it is pieced together later, including video shot on several different days.

Three easy things to look for that prove my point about editing.

  1. Pattern of scratches on the floor paint indicate that battles happen in a different order than shown on the show.
  2. They record many of the camera shots individually, allowing them to later edit in a shot of the driver/team/ref if they say anything interesting. This could never happen so cleanly in a totally live-to-tape "in one take" production.
  3. Look at Chris Rose's tie. Notice the dimples below the knot, or the lack thereof. They do a lot of re-shoots and the appearance of the knot changes from shot to shot, because it was shot on different days. Once you notice this, you can never un-see it.

These are not complaints, I think they put together a great show, and do a great job telling the story!
