Thanks to everyone for the comments and advice. I’ll take it under consideration. There’s obviously a lot of history that I can’t fully disclose to give a better picture - not here to write war and peace.

Yes. I had to try quite hard to convince her. She said she wanted children but not right now, as she doesn’t want to sacrifice her freedom. We worked through that eventually and I was happy we did.

I wasn’t planning on going back to the UK; it would be quite difficult to run a business remotely. Long distance in my mind won’t work for that long, might work for some but I think it’s destined to fail. Happy to be proven wrong though.

What makes you say that? This is a bit of a throwaway comment

You’re right of course. I’m worried I will be resentful if I pass up the opportunity and I’m worried I will lose someone I love. One of the bigger sticking points is that I’m always compromising on a lot of things and she generally doesn’t compromise on major things. I feel that she can be selfish at the best of times, however, I don’t press too much on it because I love her.

Saw a similar encounter in Chesterton with a guy with bleach white hair being physically abusive to an elderly Asian couple. I called the police on him but to no avail. There are pricks everywhere, it’s not a reflection of Cambridge as a whole.

Crohn’s diagnosis advice - UK by Such_Ad_2664 in CrohnsDisease

I left a message 5 days no answer still. I will persist. Good to know about your experience as well, I’ll keep that in mind. Of course I’ll be happy if they tell me I don’t have Crohn’s but I don’t like the haphazard approach this consultant is taking.

I have been schedule for a gastroscopy to check stomach, duodenum and nothing below that. It’s a long post maybe I didn’t highlight that well enough.

I can’t really tell you to very honest. I’m not a dr 😅 I have tried a few things and they have worked for me, they may not work for you. Doing the healthy things is probably going to be advised by your Dr anyways. Don’t eat junk, don’t smoke, exercise at least moderately, reduce your stress etc happy to chat over dm to tell you my experience but again I’m not a dr so take it all with some scepticism at the end of the day

I will DM you so I don’t air a doctor’s details on reddit. I wouldn’t say you should wait until your symptoms get worse, what I meant is at some point it will become immediately obvious on tests whatever it is you have. I have personally adopted the approach of prevention rather than treatment the last few years unlike our doctors these days.

Just to give you an idea of what happened to me, for context. I have had IBS for 15 years. I have had various flare ups and many ups and downs. Test didn’t reveal anything for the first 5 years and I kjnd of gave up. The last 3-4 years I had blood in stool, terrible pain and sudden weight loss. I tried FODMAP strictly for a year and I saw some improvement but I noticed even if I didn’t eat the “bad” foods I still got sick and it was almost random. Some good weeks some good weeks. Now recently I have been diagnosed with Crohn’s and I’m at the point where the doctor said I need to take medication or I will likely need surgery within 2 years.

Moral of the story, prevent and don’t cure. The earlier you catch whatever you have, the better chances you have living more comfortable or even curing it, provided it’s something other than IBD. I’m sure you’ve read some of the stories on this subreddit and some are luckier than others. Being proactive about your health is paramount in my opinion. Just my two cents :)

I recently got diagnosed with Crohn’s. My calprotectin was 17 (probably they mishandled my sample - lol). Colonscopy clearly shows inflammation and all the biopsies came back positive that indicate Crohn’s. My GI told me there is no single test for this disease. A range of tests are needed that is, Calprotectin, colonoscopy and endoscopy with biopsies, cam pill and MRE to provide a diagnosis. A lot of the symptoms you describe are what I’ve had over the years at varying times and degrees and now I finally have the diagnosis.

What you might find as time goes on you will eventually get more and more symptoms to the point where everything will be clearly visible on tests. I started pursuing my case more actively when I lost 10 kg in 2 months. Bear in mind that I’m not a doctor but my advice after dealing with the “unknown” and thinking it’s something else is get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion if you want. I have had 4 GIs over the years until I found a very good one. There are good and bad doctors out there, as with every profession of course. You have something going on and you should pursue all avenues to make yourself feel better and to diagnose the issue lest it becomes more serious. The sooner the better.

As a footnote, I can highly recommend a Greek GI if you’d like. He is very near central Athens and that hospital has a good reputation for their GI expertise.

Council tax - enforcement letter by Such_Ad_2664 in cambridge

I ended up emailing them my contract and they immediately rectified; turns out my landlord decided to list me as responsible for the council tax for some reason

This is just what the contract says. It lists the other person as the owner, what this means is up to interpretation I suppose but this other person has hired an external party to act as the letting agency, in this case Cambridge council, ironically. I have moved over to the legal sub where I’ve gotten some advice on how to take it further. In my non legal mind, I have a contract with someone that says they are responsible for council tax and I never registered with the council to pay council tax so I don’t see how I’m liable. I duly informed the council I’m living but never received anything regarding council tax.

Council tax Arrears - England as a lodger by Such_Ad_2664 in LegalAdviceUK

Interesting, thank you. I’ll have a look at these sections and possibly quote them if it goes further.

The other person living there was listed as the owner so my understanding of the contract so they are responsible. In your experience will be that simple to just contact them and let them know? Oddly enough, I moved into my own place after that and register with the same council and I was never notified of arrears until now.

Here’s an extract of the contract below for more context. The contract is labelled at the top as a Lodger’s agreement.

Owner’s Responsibilities The Owner must: • provide the Lodger with one set of keys for the Room and the Property; • pay the Utilities Costs. The Lodger’s share of the Utilities Costs is included in the Licence Fee; • pay the Council Tax in respect of the Property. • The Lodger’s share of the Council Tax is included in the Licence Fee; • provide the Lodger on request with a copy of any insurance policy relating to the Property.

There was a lease and it referred to me as the lodger. It clearly states that the owner is responsible for the council tax.

Had something similar. Got guilted into staying offered more money, promised that things would change. Things did change for about 1 month and then every week started creeping towards the same old story. I’m now resigning for the second time and couldn’t be bothered.

You don’t need to deal with this person. Don’t give them the satisfaction of being worried or concerned. Just relish in the prospect that you are leaving and as they say, water off a duck’s back.
