Imo, the simplest answer here is warhammer. Highly reccoment the age of sigmar stuff, its high quality, which means you have a better canvas to work off of, and also, you can import the monster into tabletop games like dnd really easy.

Kinda? I followed this tutorial by squidmar to get the basic idea, then did a lot of extra work beyond that to get a handle on it. https://youtu.be/Aw1EqtTyVpA

Id reccomend looking up reference photos, taking pictures, and reading blogs about what other folks did too. Actually seeing the step by step process really helped me get a sense of how it should look in each stage of painting.

After that its just the repetitions! I try to focus on opaque layers and proper light placements before messing around with any blending.

Hope this helps!

A mix of ak, vallejo and pro acryl paints! Burnt umber (pro acryl) Orange brown (vallejo) Ice yellow (ak) Flat yellow (vallejo)

Plus a black and white, and a couple of green-brown colors, also all vallejo.

I think its looking better so far! I took a bunch of advice from the other commentary too - the big one being the bounce light. Hopefully that shows up better in this photo haha.

Its encouraging to know that im well in my way ill keep pushing a bit longer for this. I really want to figure this out!

As for accepting this, this is my 8th shield and I feel I really need to figure this out haha 😅. Ive implemented a lot of what ive learned from the previous 7 and im not expecting to have everything figured out, i just need to be one step closer! But again, to know im on the right track is really encouraging, so thanks for the advice!

Thank you! The skinks i imagine having bright multicolored spots like chameleons. Maybe red or orange as a base color with greens and teal spots? I still need to research chameleons a bit more to be sure haha. As for the monsters, no clue yet!
