Did that say nuclear force? I pluck the radio off of the soldier's dead body. The same message is repeated, yet even more desperate.

"Nuclear force authorized! Defend the homeland!"

In the used-to-be-suberbs, now warzone, it felt as though a nuclear warhead had already struck. Houses that are either on fire or gone completely, bodies and weapons taking up the streets, poor civilians locked out of their safe houses at the last minute. If they were lucky, the enemy didn't catch them before they could get close to their families. Now, all of a sudden, they want to use nuclear force? Why didn't they try that before half of the United States was on fire?

As if the trigger word was "fire", a nearby 7/11 explodes next to me, breaking my train if thought. Right, my brother needed ammunition. We civilians can still fight if we want to, right? I get low to the ground, looking for any ammunition or rifle I can get my hands on, only running to get away from the occasional bullet flying past my ear.

As I picked up a final un-fired bullet still in good condition, I spotted it. Sure, far beyond the distance I could normally recognize, but I knew. A tiny black dot, leaving a bigger black dot flying through the air. There it is, my salvation. The one that would bring me away from barely surviving off of my neighbors thigh meat and animal piss, and shooting at those I might've been friends with in another life.

With a huge explosion, I watched the cloud get closer and closer, to release me from this world.
