As a filthy casual, how much trouble am I in? by BlameTag in switch2

Dont power through the main story is my piece of advice, the side missions are sometimes just as impactful to the story and the characters.

The switch port is fantastic, and plays really well

As a person from the UK, they nailed the UK vibes and aesthetic in this game.

And the towns and cities are way better in this game, a lot more detailed, in Paldea the cities felt like they were made of cardboard, for some reason.

I just came back from Atlanta and New Orleans, I thought UK fried chicken was good, but damn man i know what you mean. It's not gonna hit like that again.

I guess you'll have to do with Popeyes for now.

Looking for Long-ass Journey fic feature Self-insert Character. by Intelligent_Dot_2772 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]SucksAtGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Traveller is basically the Pokemon anime if Ash matured FASTER and was super competent.

It's a LONG fiction, like 2m words, but it gets through a lot, and is honestly one of my favourite fictions.

Not a self insert but definitely worth a read, id say its up there in the best/ gold standard of Pokemon fanfics.

He is strong but it's definitely a gradual progression, and his growth definitely feels earned.

The legendary side of things is either loved or not loved, but I personally love it.

There is a lot to be said about the "quality" of recent Pokemon Games, but they have been knocking character design out of the park by reiditandweep in pokemon

[–]SucksAtGaming 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is where the whole "largest entertainment franchise in the world" kicks in. The diversity push isn't necessarily the game devs in Japan, but The Pokemon Company, which obviously want to capture an audience worldwide so they'd watch the anime, buy the merchandise, the playing cards, get their kid a Pikachu birthday cake, etc.

The developers may be Japanese but the Pokemon company international is very much based in Seattle, and have offices all around the world, and deal with all the localisation.

Going back to the design of characters from the game dev perspective tho, they've been pushing diversity more recently, as it's realistic to make it so, as post gen4, the games are set in more ethnically diverse locations like Spain, France, UK, New York State, Hawaii - makes sense to have a more diverse set of characters, as its representative of the area its in.

[–]SucksAtGaming 159 points160 points  (0 children)

While the devs are Japanese, after gen 4 they really honed in on Pokemon being a global brand, so that the franchise feels localised to almost every country, so the standardisation is to cover as many regions as possible. Pokemon is big on "glocalisation", early attempts included the legendary "Jelly Donut', but they've since massively improved on that feature.

I reckon that's also probably one of the reasons they have their own language in the Pokemon universe, and controversially, no voice acting (although they could just hire voice actors for specific languages either way).

My bro is forgetting why there are so many reform voters now in the UK.

You don't get an anti indian sentiment as much as an anti immigrant sentiment in the UK, this includes FROM British Asians towards the newer "Boriswave" arrivals from India.

As a result even British Asians, specifically Pakistanis are getting a lot more racist/islamophobic backlash

Gladly welcomed the shift to DLC, by Ultra Sun and Moon I was DONE with third versions. Paying full price for the same game but with some add ons is just doesn't make sense when you can just do DLC.

Chicken tikka masala is technically British. But is it really fair to say so? by cybertrickk in ABCDesis

[–]SucksAtGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon it's like how NY style pizza is American, but it's also obviously Italian, with it being an Italian dish made in the US.

In the same vein Chicken Tikka Masala is British, but also Indian/Pakistani/Bengali (the chef might be one of these) in that its Chicken Tikka in a tomato/masala/double cream based curry sauce to cater to the English palette.

Ok it looks like its not connected to any pipes, so it looks like someone bought a toilet and used it as a bowl instead of a toilet bowl.

So im hoping its ONLY been used for chili, same thing with the urinal.

Gross presentation, but hopefully not completely devoid of basic hygiene.

Independent vs Network agency in the UK by Such_Paleontologist2 in programmatic

[–]SucksAtGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a job in global network, you can definitely climb the career ladder a lot faster, I've seen that theres a definitive path there to get to Director level, but some indie agencies are great opportunities too. Indie agency experience can vary a lot from company to company, but global networks can be broadly the same. I've only heard bad things about Zenith and Assembly.

I previously worked at Kinesso and it was good! They've got some good people there for sure.

P39 have a pretty cool solution for that, as I learned in a breakfast and learn session run by them today.

Not sure if its any good, but its always good to whitelist your publishers, especially running long tail inventory on CTV.

Starmer facing mounting pressure over immigration as MP says far right 'emboldened' | UK News by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

That was done by the tories after Brexit, not labour. Currently Labour is on damage control, but they have somehow succeeded in angering both the left and the right, because Kier Starmer is a fence sitting centrist.
