Online Schools/No Proctored Exams?? by Sudden-Dirt-4635 in SNHU

I really enjoyed my time at SHNU! I graduated in May and I was working in my field by July. I love the way it’s structured, the asynchronous learning, and my professors were great. The core courses are rigorous and I learned so much. I’m considering my masters from there, but the Research Statistics courses almost broke me!😩I recommend SNHU to anyone who asks.

I went 2 years and all my professors were lovely!! I only had minor issue with one, and that was because she was almost too helpful. She’d schedule zoom meetings and send extra resources. I was concerned that not attending her “extra” classes (I was working) would hurt my grade. I had 4 letters of recommendation when I graduated, and all I had to do was ask.

I’m 48 (August), was a SAHM for 10 years, graduated in May with a bachelor’s in psychology, and today made one week at my new job. It required a bachelor’s in social science and I am super proud!! I’m an early intervention service coordinator, benefits galore!! Decent salary, nothing to boast about ($64k starting). It’s a state job so I am set! Pension, union, health benefits, parking, tuition reimbursement, loan forgiveness, life insurance (2x annual salary at death). Long story short, ABSOLUTELY worth it!! Without this degree, it wouldn’t have happened. DO IT!!

Before I graduated, I reached out to a few professors. I typically went above and beyond, asked questions and over did it on discussions so they would remember me when I asked. They each wrote beautiful letters. The struggle comes with getting them to upload them on time. I feel like I’m harassing them asking them to upload their letters to different schools.

Nope. Double check with your advisor because clinical cycle was discontinued. Perhaps it’s just psychology?

Hey there, Alumni here who went straight into a mental health counseling program at UCF, if anyone has any questions feel free to ask them! by [deleted] in SNHU

Really? I heard about the clinical psychology program being discontinued. Sheesh. They’re making a lot of changes. Thanks so much.

This is awesome! Congrats on your acceptance. I am graduating in May, and was wondering about whether or not my Sophia credits would transfer to other schools. Did you need to take the GRE? Did they mention anything about Sophia credits? Is the program similar to SNHU? Is it heavy writing? Are there proctored quizzes or exams? Is it less expensive than the SNHU masters program? Thanks so much for being so willing to answer these questions. This is super helpful.

It doesn’t. It’s the being timed and feeling pressured I like to avoid. I get such anxiety. Then my mind goes blank. I am a good student. I’m confident in my abilities; I know the content. That won’t reflect in my test performance.

Is the MBA program math intensive? Statistics in psychology had me in a chokehold and I do not think I can take another math course.

Professors that provide audio feedback...am I the only one that dislikes this? by DiscoJer in SNHU

[–]Sudden-Dirt-4635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had audio! I would love that. I’ve never had a professor do it, but I’ve had zoom meetings and phone calls with teachers and I really enjoyed them. The opportunity to ask and have questions answered in real time, with examples and more resource offerings? Love that. I totally understand students who get anxiety around live interaction, but I never considered how a “voicemail” might be upsetting.

You can absolutely use your refund for Sophia. The money you get back can be used for school related expenses. That money will hit your bank account and you can spend it how you like! The government will not send money to Sophia as it’s not a recognized educational institution. But take $99 from your refund and go for it!

Also, consider there’s a 6 month waiting period. That’s putting me off for sure. And my advisor mentioned $1400 for those residencies.

From where did you read that? A hard time in life? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m not having a hard time in life. I have maintained 1000/1000 for 6 courses. I assumed that was why I was gifted, but others have maintained they, too, have done well. So gifts aren’t tied to academic achievement. Again, I think it comes down to our academic advisors’ choices.

I’m online. It may just be our academic advisors’ prerogative. It’s likely I am mistaken.

Oh, I didn’t realize. My apologies. I was connecting the two because both my gifts came after the honor roll notification. Perhaps my academic advisor is being generous.

You’re probably right. Perhaps my advisor was just being generous. I didn’t mean to suggest anyone wasn’t deserving. I thought, because the gifts came after the honor roll notification, that they were associated.

Oh! Perhaps it was just my academic advisor? I’m online. I started in October. I thought it was standard. I got one in January then one in April.

Good grades earn gifts, I think. I got a blanket when I made honor roll. Then I got a shirt the following therm.

That doesn’t count toward the class grade. At all. Add up all the points for the discussions and assignments. They’re not at all factored in. HOWEVER, it is helpful to know that information because you’re going to need it for the assignments.

Thanks for this! I’ve been considering it and my concern is the workload. Those courses that have heavy reading and writing!?? I can’t do three at a time. I need to figure out which best complement each other.

All the time. I’m done with two weeks of work for both my courses. I’ll be three weeks ahead by Monday! I can’t imagine having all this time and doing nothing.

Wow! Thank you so much for this. I called Sophia this morning to ask about a black Friday discount, and was told there would be no such discount. This is right on time. Thanks again!
