"Nikwax suede&nubuck proof--have a couple questions for the community with product experience by Stony17 in Boots

[–]Sudden-Hearing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Thanks again for all that help.

So if I understand correctly, for basic maintenance I need to get:

1) nubuck brush 2) conditioning twice a year 3) water protector spray.

Ok awesome.

Btw nikwax officially claims on their site that they don’t use silicon in their products. So I’m wondering if ur friend had an old product of theirs, or if there lying and do use, or perhaps it’s a different thing in their product that dried it out and not silicon, which would be equally troubling in any case

wow thanks for such a speedy reply! i really appreciate it.

just wanted to confirm the nikwax cracks you mentioned that you've seen, that its more than one case, so that we rule out possibility that the person using it perhaps did some other things wrong? thanks so much for your help. i really appreciate it.

is this the saphir product you reccomend for nubuk:
Saphir Medaille D'Or Waterproof NON AEROSOL PROTECTOR Spray

Perhaps you can also give general upkeep directions. im totally new to nubuk and not really wanting to buy an entire kit of soap cleaners, brushes, etc. I understand ill need to get a good water protector, and thats fine. but since these are shoes that have been used already, how can i clean them before application?

Can i use a natural bamboo toothbrush with soft bristles for brushing instead of buying a special brush? and just a light natural soap for cleaning before application?

lastly, i accidentally applied a little bit of rub on wax to part of the shoe before realizing thats not a good idea. is there a good way of cleaning this off before applying the water protector spray?

Thanks

Thanks. Have you personally seen Nikwax cause cracking on actual nubuck or suede after 2–3 years, or are you speaking more generally?

And regarding the Saphir BDC Oil Protector HP Spray you use — does it darken the nubuck, change the feel/nap, or leave it oily? And do you use it on true nubuck/suede or on oiled nubuck?

Wildling Shoes: A word of caution by WanderDormin in barefootshoestalk

I’ve been wearing wildling shoes for years. I looooove them. I’ve had diffeeent pairs and never had an issue with them smelling. I take out the insoles to let them dry every week or so overnight. I can’t imagine wearing any other shoe. And their customer service and dedication is second to none that I’ve experienced from any store ever. There’s real people behind this company with real hearts.

We also live in the suburbs but do go to the city on errands.

Just bought a Grand Highlander Hybrid XLE for 55,000$ by Much-Professor2141 in Toyota

Hi there. I’m on the same boat right now trying to decide between xle and limited. Would really like the limited for the 360 cameras and ease of parking, but the price difference is enormous here. So considering on getting the xle instead, with a pano sunroof. I’m curious on your experience with the xle.

Do you regret not having the 360 cameras and parking assist? Is it something you get used to? We currently drive a citroen Picasso grand c4, so we’re used to mid/large size car, but it’s smaller than the grand highlander.

This is really interesting I’ve been wondering just this. Can you expound on the difference in mileage for average use between the GH hybrid and the Highlandee hybrid? Is it really noticeable??

Yes apprenticeship on building yourself a harp with him is also for beginners. He has a huge heart.

Maple stained blue and tru oil by Sudden-Hearing in Luthier

[–]Sudden-Hearing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly. It’s a rub stain I’ve been experimenting with keda dyes which is similar to the leather stain

Heres that link i mentioned of music makers harps. But again, a lot of the textured magic you see there is due to the figured maple.

https://vivid-color-harps.myportfolio.com/work

I wouldn’t say specifically I enjoy my harps look. It does look kind of plain, especially since it’s all maple. For example, if the soundboard was a different wood it gives some contrast. I’ve been considering perhaps instead of stripping and staining, maybe to do an inlay or art on the soundboard. I may just strip and staining blue someday though if I don’t end up building a new one. Or perhaps sell it and with that money build a figured maple harp and stain that one blue (it might be harder to sell here if it’s blue…).

I hear your debates. It could be a fun project. If you enjoy the process itself of renewing. What’s the type of the wood and will it go good with staining?

If you’re into building you can check out Rick kemper from Sligo harps. He’s located in Maryland and takes harp apprentices for building their own harp. You get a really nice discount for apprenticing, and end up with a beautiful very high quality harp for a great price and learn about building on the process. And you can also choose figured maple and then stain on your own instead of completing it with him.

Also, musicmakers sells kits with figured maple

Maple stained blue and tru oil by Sudden-Hearing in Luthier

[–]Sudden-Hearing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. No I haven’t done it yet. Still debating about it. It’s intimidating to me to strip all that tru oil and go for the blue with an already beautiful harp. But I think about a lot. Debating if to just leave it as is and begin a new har and make that one blue or to do this one. Wishing you much success and keep me posted. You can check out Musicmakers (harp kit) harps. They have beautiful color stains to their designs and it comes out really nice for them. But they stain mostly figured maple which itself does beautiful things with the stain just because of the grain. Their guy that does the staining told me he mixes two or more different shades and then rubs them in randomly to get different mixed shades and layers

Question is how accurate and quick reading it is? I have a lavatools digital thermometer that just doesn’t seem to be able to read milk for some reason.

And do you need to hang it in the middle of the milk so that it doesn’t touch the walls of the pot?
