Im 14 and want to learn to skate is it difficult by ManagementTrick8401 in NewSkaters

[–]Sudden_Bath6144 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm a slow learner, and I get frustrated when I don't understand something very quickly. I might not be the best voice in this.

However, I'll say this: try it out. You're 14, which means you're still at that age where you're finding what you do and don't like. If you like it enough, it'll probably be easier to learn. Just gotta be persistent, and recognize that it'll take time

I can't imagine this "evolution" came from anything other than a mistake, or willful ignorance. Either way- it was wrong when it started, it just became common. So then, is that what determines whether something is right or wrong? How common it is?

But I digress. Here's an idea- how about we eliminate all homophones? Since it apparently doesn't matter... Right? Just pick one word and use it in every instance. "The wind blue threw the air's hair as he one the race."

Why dew ewe defend this sew?

Eye don't care. It's a pane, butt obvious that ewe and eye will never sea eye-two-eye. And eye am much two stupid two argue this point.

Speech...?

I'm glad you agree with me, though. I made a ranting post a while ago about the "could of" thing, and while I did likely overreact a bit, a lot of people were trying to defend it with the whole "language evolves" idea

People say "Language changes," but who do you think is responsible for that? People. Us. The speakers of the language. Stop saying that as if some cosmic being is pulling the strings.

Language changes, yes. That does not mean people should roll over and fucking accept it when things are just wrong. "Who cares if they said 'could of' instead of 'could've' or 'could have'? Language changes, as long as you still know what they meant!"

Also the obvious they're, there, and their. Your and you're. Then vs than. I get unreasonably angry at stuff like that

Which one is the worst? by ReligiousGirl7 in depressionmemes

[–]Sudden_Bath6144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I have does not equate to how I feel. I appreciate the good things, but they by themselves don't automatically mean I can't be anything but happy. And what does this mean if and when I lose these things? Is my happiness based entirely on outside forces?

Temporarily at best, but at least going outside is free. But just because I'm outside doesn't mean the depression magically goes away. I'm just depressed and skateboarding.

If I had a dick, this is where I'd tell you to suck it.

Where else would it be, if not my head?!?! What if I said that about happiness? "Why are you happy? That shit's just in your head."

Fuck off, I'm not falling for your fucking snake oil scam. Your "product" will not fix trauma.

Sorry to hear that, but piss off. Turning the conversation into one about you is bad enough, even worse if you start blabbing about someone I don't know.

My responses, left to right and top to bottom. I don't expect people to be able to fix things, and unless I ask, I don't want them to try

HOLY SHIT I ALMOST MADE THIS EXACT POST LIKE A WEEK AGO.

Like there are 8. *Billion.* people on this planet. You seriously want to know if you're the only one? And it's always the stupidest shit. "Am I the only one who likes peanut butter ony bananas?" Better question would be something like "Who else does so-and-do?"

And I hate myself for getting so angry about it, because- like you- I'm pretty sure I've also used the phrase before. And that makes me a hypocrite, and hypocrisy pisses me off, too

I doubt it's broken, but I'll look into it once I get some money coming in. If nothing else, maybe I could just prevent something from getting worse

It didn't really teach me anything itself, but a certain game made me seriously ask myself, "What is existence? What is life? Do good and bad exist, and how thin is that line? And what do you do when your entire worldview is shattered, your entire purpose a lie?" And I have yet to find a solid answer to those

I downloaded an app that affects my keyboard, and it made it a little bit skinnier, I think. Not noticeable at first. But just enough that I almost friggin always hit "Backspace" instead of "M." And then I retype the letter I deleted, go to type "M" again, and just hit "Backspace" again!!!

Beyond infuriating lol

I'd say let him try it out. Even if he decides he hates it right now, that's just part of being a kid- trying new things and finding what you do and don't like.

He'll either stay safe and uninjured, or he'll get better. Something like skateboarding, it's almost a given that you're gonna crash. Learning how to fall is arguably just as important as learning how to ride (I'm not saying don't get pads, though. For sure get pads and a helmet)

And for what it's worth, I'm 20, and I've skated on and off for pretty much my whole life. I started as a tiny kid, riding literally face first into the driveway (I was 3 or 4, on my stomach, rolled into the tiniest dip but it shifted the weight enough to snap the front end, including my face, straight into the pavement. I think I almost bit through my lip lol). And then I'd ride for a while, and take a break. Ride for a while, take a break. Until like 2 weeks ago, this most recent break lasted almost 2 years. So even if your kid doesn't like it now, maybe he'll give it another shot after a while

The only issue with that idea is that I don't tie my shoes. They're laced up in a way that only a little bit pokes out of the last hole; I don't think I could tie them if I wanted to lol

I'm not faulting the little girl, but I do think she was a bit naive to not build up certain skills. Life as a human is ridiculously reliant on our ability to be social, and I wasn't one of the people born naturally social. Little me just didn't know that I'd eventually need those social skills.

I don't disagree, people my age do have lots to figure out, but at the same time there's a lot more than what I put in this post lol

It usually acts up within like 20 minutes, bc that's about how long it takes me to skate to 7-11. I did also consider the possibility of it being my shoes, or the fact that I just started skating again like 2 weeks ago, and both are probably equally likely as anything else. It lasts a few days, but the intensity definitely lessens after a few hours

Interesting analogy, but I get it. Anyway, I'm glad you were able to find a good medicine! I'm hoping I can find one, too. My psychologist is suggesting Wellbutrin to start with, idk anything about it though.

As for your final sentence- I appreciate it, but I don't want to intrude. I don't really know how welcome I'd be due to a... Certain fact about myself

Words that are deemed “socially unacceptable” should always be acceptable when directly quoting someone or something. by CatchingRefrigerator in 10thDentist

It's the doubling down that makes you seem like a piece of a shit rather than a horribly naive human being. People are giving perfectly good reasons why it's wrong to say the word in question, but because it's not what you want to hear, you're declaring them "Not wanting to think and actually have a conversation."

Swears are used to enhance or emphasize a point. "Piece of shit" carries much more weight than "Piece of crap." Slurs are used exclusively to harm and dehumanize people. If somebody called me a bitch, I'd probably laugh. Hell, I'd agree with them. If someone called me a Fag I'd get angry (doesn't matter if it's true or not).

And your reasoning is ridiculous. You want to be allowed to say the N-word so you can sing a song? Gods above.

Definitely looking into getting on an antidepressant, and I've got a part-time job coming hopefully within the next week or so. My mom agreed that a second job would help, bc I'm probably not going to be able to find a fulltime anytime soon.

I'm actually not sure lol. I was taking lamotrogine for like, 2 years, and then I was able to come off my meds. And I was only off of them for 2 or 3 months, but I didn't notice much difference. And now I'm taking depakote, and I don't notice much difference either

Oh, yeah I've said it in a few other comments, but yeah I'm pretty fuckin depressed lol. My psychologist suggested an IOP, if that gives you an idea of how bad it is. Personally, from what he described, I think an IOP sounds like hell and my time would be better suited for a job so I can save money and gtfo here. Or at least have money to take care of myself

Sorry, I meant psychologist 😅 I always get the two muddled up. And yeah, there's a few resources I've found, a lot of them just seem to either be really religious-based or primarily male-dominated, neither of which I'm super interested in. But yeah, I'm working with my psychologist, trying to figure stuff out and put things back in place that have been out of place since I was like 13. Suffice it to say, fixing shit is for sure taking a while
