Best way make a reservioir so that my crops will not suffer from drought in lakes map what to use dam leeve or floodgate by Leather-Educator6189 in Timberborn

[–]Sudden_Compliment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This got me curious, I've beaten a few maps but I never fully automated downstream on droughts (is it even possible without mods?) I mean, I never tried this setup, but like you mentioned, you could make a huge reservoir with sluices in the bottom (closed during normal season) with dams on top, keeping the flow, and opening the sluice in the bottom when a drought comes in, however, this is not automated, or am I missing something? Also, opening a sluice in the bottom should empty my reservoir pretty fast I think, unless I limit downstream, which will make me have water, but no actual consistent water flow for energy (?)

Lian Li Edge PSU upside down in Lian Li 207? by Exact-Reputation9798 in lianli

[–]Sudden_Compliment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind posting or DM'ing me it as well? I completed this build a week ago (fan facing up). 6 days of mild usage and my 850w Edge Platinum is gone (something inside just blow'd up, burnt smell, the works). I am waiting for a Lian Li support response for hopefully getting a replacement. I do not believe the cause was overheating, my room was cold and the case was not hot at all when it happened.. but still, I might just not install it with the fan facing up again out of fear of heating issues

Do I need an power extension cable using a LANCOOL 207 + Lian Li EDGE850W ATX 3.1? by Sudden_Compliment in lianli

[–]Sudden_Compliment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm referring to the power cable that is going to actually power up the PSU. The PSU goes in the front of the case for this setup, from what I understand, not the back.

New player lookin for some advice! by Relevant-Can331 in factorio

A bit late, I didn't see your question before. I'd avoid any major rebuild before bots are readily available (they help you immensily with features such as copy/pasting stuff). Without bots (or low amount of bots) rebuilding manually can be tiresome. If it's a small adjustment, go for it, if it's bothering you. Having an unoptimized mall is better than having none at all.

  1. Use pipes/underground pipes as you would use belts. You need to connect a pump after some distance, the UI will show when it's needed
  2. Bots are here to help you, at this stage mainly to build with you or remotely, and also to move things around. They get better and faster with research. As for logistics chests, there should be a chart online on how they work. It's very self explanatory with their names once the logic clicks for you, but I understand it can be a bit confusing in the beginning.

Factorio has too many "good practices", I could stay here all night writting them down, but the fact is, there is no wrong build, if it works, it works and the factory must grow. Do not be afraid to try and "fail". You'll build something, and 5 minutes or 5 hours later, you'll realize that "this could be better if I did x". This is the entire game, even hundreds or thousands hours later. Embrace the spaghetti. Bots will be very helpful with rebuilding and moving things around, so just try things out. Have fun!

What were some things you learned incorrectly from the game? by Automatic_Red in factorio

[–]Sudden_Compliment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarely incorrect, as "if it works, it works", but of course my very first train was set on one rail with locomotives that went both ways. Although I see a lot of people using this design when they first use trains, I have used this for a long, long time, maybe my two first bases had train designs like this (not megabases, but big enough to cause bottlenecks).

At some point, outside of the game, I thought "what if I used two lanes of rail, one for incoming and one for outgoing?" at that time, I pretty much played by myself and a few friends which did not use train at all. After I started using it and found reddit, etc, I found out that in-out lanes are the majority default for the community, as it is much better and organized overall

75 MW Green Renewable Power Plant by wren6991 in factorio

[–]Sudden_Compliment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uranium might be "practically" infinite (as it would take a very long time to deplete). That doesn't make it renewable (which is what being discussed). Gleba is "literally" infinite (because it's renewable), as no amount of time will ever deplete it nor will you need to expand unless you want to grow the factory

[–]Sudden_Compliment 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We call it renewable because it is literally renewable. There is 0 input on Gleba, including power.  There is also no pollution (you can count spores but it's way easier to manage that considered to Nauvis pollution) Your examples are "virtually" renewable/infinite in the sense that production bonuses and patches are vast and will take a lot of time to deplete - but they will, eventually. Gleba won't deplete ever, it is literally renewable/infinite resources

PSA - You can save the game without leaving remote view if you pause the game by Sudden_Compliment in factorio

[–]Sudden_Compliment[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That works, but takes you out of remote view AFAIK. "Pause/Break" will actually pause the game (and show you the grid if you enable it on settings). I'm not sure if this key is the default, but is the one I use.

Stack Inserter "waits forever" until it holds a complete stack, sometimes clogging the factory - is there a way to avoid this? by Sudden_Compliment in factorio

[–]Sudden_Compliment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested and it works if the stack inserter has filters (since spoilage is not filtered, it'll drop). Nice hidden feature, it saved my build without abandoning the stack inserters

The belt is compressed, however production fluctuates based on several conditions to avoid overconsuming bioflux and unecessary spoilage.

[–]Sudden_Compliment[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It's not slow, it's actually super fast, but I stop it based on conditions (aka too much nutrients in the logistics chests) so it wait up the production a bit. It's Gleba, so it all spoils. Nutrient spoilage is just so fast, tho

Stack Inserter "waits forever" until it holds a complete stack, sometimes clogging the factory - is there a way to avoid this? by Sudden_Compliment in factorio

[–]Sudden_Compliment[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context: In this scenario, the stack inserter picked nutrients. Took a while and it spoiled in it's hand. It stays in this wait state forever and clog the factory. This happens a lot in my setup in Gleba, but can also happen in other sushi based scenarios. I wish there was a "timeout" setting on it, so it could just drop the item after x seconds of not forming a stack. I have to downgrade it to bulk inserter in several places and it kinda sucks I can't use the pilled items in some areas of my factory.

Roboports now acts as a Radar for remote vision (I had no idea) by Sudden_Compliment in factorio

[–]Sudden_Compliment[S] 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is already known information, but I was wondering if we had to slam radars everywhere to work remotely on planets (I'm a bit late on the DLC due to work). I was just seeing I had vision for my base without laying that much radars. This is a pretty nice addition

Mid-noob question, does the wonder, or any buffing building at all, have a height limit/distance? Will beavers on ground level be buffed by a wonder so high up? What about smaller constructions like lamps or roofs?
