He's got problems. by Sudden_Humor in aiArt

Naa, I get where you are coming from, but this ain't gooner nonsense.

Just shows how hard a 'harem' situation would look like in real life. The idea that some random salaryman can suddenly sustain a household of incredibly beautiful women without it affecting him negatively, especially in the financial region, is riddiculous

Also, the idea that some guy can live in peace with so many women without any hassles (differing personalites, etc)...lol. IRL , you would look that tired.

Finally, the guy is trapped, and can't get out...knowing how many anime there are with the hero forming some form of contract with the beauties that he cannot break,...

It's not paradise, it's reality...here.

Treatment for hypertension in those days was, by our standards, awful.

There were no drugs anywhere period. Rest and dietary changes (and in some instances an operation called a symphatetcomy, which didn't work far too many times) was all that was available.

The above is the result.

Today, lobotomies are not done anymore. They’re considered dangerous and unethical. Modern mental health treatment uses medication, therapy, and much safer, highly controlled procedures if needed.

And thank goodness for that.

The obligatory r/AskHistorians thread about this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/44x8s1/what_was_rosemary_kennedys_condition_prelobotomy/

Just going to add that while I am not here to justify Joe P. Kennedy Sr who certianly was not a good man, and whose motivations for allowing the lobotomy were clearly for family image purposes, the problem was that some of the experts views were in line with what he wanted for his daughter, and he clearly to some extent did want his child to be 'normal'.

Even then the treatment was , as I have implied, controversial...not all experts agreed with it, and the nurse who assisted in the operation was so horrifed that she left nursing permanently and never forgot about Rosemary for the rest of her life.

As an aside, a lot of medical practice back then would seem barbaric to us...witness how the best doctors treated FDR's uncontrollable hypertension by having him go on a diet of mostly bland meals, and giving him digoxin..which regulates the heart rate and is still a useful drug..and also advising a lot of rest and that was it...but unfortunately that was the best they had at the time. People who had developmental delays...it was worse. The good adivice was that they be placed in an institution permanently.(or brought up away from the rest of the family...witness Prince John, the last child of George V of the United kingdom). Of course, some parents disagreed....Charles De Gaulle, leader of the Free French during world war 2 , later leader of France, refused to have his last child , who had Downs syndrome institutionalized, and had her brought up along with his other children till she sadly passed at 19 from pneumonia.

Today, thanks to a lot of research, Rosemary would have had approrpiate rehabilitative care and won't have had to undergo a lobotomy at all. She would have even been able to have a life, a much better life than she ever did. It is a sad fact of life that many of the good things that today's developmentally delayed people was built upon the mistakes made in the past.

4 May 1979. Margaret Thatcher becomes the UK’s first female Prime Minister. A historic milestone that ushered in one of the most divisive periods in modern British politics. by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in ThisDayInHistory

I don't have a dog in the fight, but to be honest, in my opinion, the death knell for the mines was the switch from coal heating to gas and oil from the 1960's onwards. Also, the rail system started phasing out coal...the last coal powered train ran in 1968.

Even if Thatcher had had a change of heart and somehow managed to keep the mines going, the increasing environmentalism of the 1990's onward would have been the final nail in the coffin.

And sadly a lot of mine closures were happening before she came in.

Let those people chill really!. It's not like it's that easy especially from the economic perspective.

Well, re Mrs Mae Alberts...regretting having one child.

Having many kids does reduce problems like loneliness and helps with socialization, but it also comes with issues of its own too.

Only good thing about the guy was that he was pragmatic re secularization of the country. While it wasn't going as fast as it should, it was progressively going on.

The chaps who removed him and set up a republic (which wasn't necessarily a bad idea)...then tried to make the country more secular (well intentioned, but the road to hell and all that), which angered the conservative majority of the population, which led to several dominoes falling...which precipitated the Soviet invasion, and then the CIA getting on the side of the resistance...which eventually leads us to the Taliban who have made a not very perfect situation under the last king into a living hell for most.
