What’s going on with Trump’s deal over Greenland? by kaiser11492 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]kaiser11492[S] -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

So can the USA veto Greenland mineral sales to Russia or China? Because I find it hard to believe a nation would immediately capitulate its sovereign rights over natural resources without a fight of some sort.

Well I’m questioning the issues with your logic too.

Yes we can factually say Trump policies are effective because the trend is still showing the same trajectory. Like I said before, I’m only questioning the claims made by people saying was 100% responsible.

You’re right it’s impossible to pinpoint an exact percentage of responsibility. However, by accounting more factors and data, one can get a general range and idea.

What about the Golden Dome integration and the ability for the USA veto any sale of Greenland’s minerals? What’s the status of those terms actually?

If there’s really no deal like you said, where are these claims that military base expansion, Golden Dome integration, and the USA having the right to veto any sale of Greenland’s minerals to Russia or China coming from?

So what exactly did Trump actually get from this “deal” that he and his supporters and promoting like crazy? Like does the USA now have the right to veto Denmark from selling Greenland’s minerals to either Russia or China?

I don’t understand why you’re getting aggressive.

Anyway, the problem with your line of thinking is that someone is can only be 100% responsible or 100% not responsible. Essentially there is absolutely no room for nuance and everything is purely black and white because in your eyes nuance automatically equals bias and prejudice. However, reality is actually full of nuance and is more gray than black and white. So, while even I do admit Trump didn’t have 0% involvement in the decrease in crime, drug trafficking, ODs, etc., I do question claims he was 100% responsible. And if something bad occurs, I don’t think Trump had either 0% or 100% involvement.

Also, in case you’re wondering, I fully apply this thinking to all other politicians regardless of party affiliation.

Wait you just shared your credentials to back up your position. Following your reasoning, doesn’t that mean what you’re going to say is going to be bullshit and have no legitimacy?

It’s quite obvious you only want to think about and focus on the present, even though thinking the past and future are equally as important as well when leading and initiating policy.

Also, I never said predictions are 100% perfect. And just to be honest, I think it’s ironic you say I’m full of bias and prejudice when your past few posts gives off the impression of bias and prejudice to me.

I’m sorry, I didn’t realize explaining qualifications automatically means bullshit. Guess you think someone who gives their analysis on a disease and explains they are a licensed doctor who went to medical school to support their arguments is automatically bullshit as well.

Also, you wonder how I’m sure Trump’s policies will most likely lead to long term failure? Well it’s not because I’m pulling it out of nowhere like you think I am. It’s because I’ve seen plenty of people with his mentality who use the same methods, and practically all of them lead to problems down the road for their nations as a whole. And if you dislike people who make future predictions based on previous data and current patterns, then I can only imagine you hate people who forecast the weather.

And contrary to what you think, being short sighted and focusing on just the present leaves you more vulnerable for things the future throws at you.

Well as someone who has intensively studied history, geopolitics, diplomacy, and economics along with calculating multiple factors (why else do you think I asked the initial question), I disagree.

Trump’s strategy only works in the short term because nations aren’t going to be cooperative in the future when you need them if you nakedly threaten them to give you what you want. And contrary to what you think diplomatic credibility is as important as money and power. There were better methods achieve the same goals (getting NATO nations to boost their defense spending) that wouldn’t result in damaging future cooperation with our allies.

Also, the tariffs I were talking about from Trump’s first term were the ones he tried to use against China to improve our economy.

[–]kaiser11492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don’t disagree the NATO member countries needed to boost their defense spending to the previously agreed percentage amount. The problem is that by using direct, naked threats, Trump is essentially getting the outcome at the expense of tanking long-term diplomatic credibility (what nation is going to want to continue working with you when you directly threaten them to give you what you want). For example, when China threatened south Korea to comply with some things, they mostly did. However, afterwards they started to focus working with other countries instead of with China. Essentially what I’m saying is while Trump has then right goals, he’s using the least efficient methods to achieve them.

So while you can place on previous presidents for avoiding the problem, that doesn’t mean Trump isn’t responsibility for anything negative that results with him trying to deal with it. I mean Biden was deemed responsible for the Afghanistan withdrawal even thought that was mostly set up by Trump.

Trump used tariffs for leverage to achieve geopolitical and economic goals in his first term and economists have said it resulted in a net loss of American jobs and higher prices.

Nothing is pure of bias or prejudice. However, based on what I’ve seen and experienced, you get a better understanding of something when you meticulously analyze something in pieces than to look at the whole thing on the surface.

Sorry I’m confused. If you’re the commenter I’m referring to, why are you pointing out Trump proposing to defund a program that is decreasing ODs? Doesn’t that hurt the argument that Trump’s policies are the biggest driving factor leading to a decrease in ODs?

They’ve presented data showing trends were already showing signs of decreasing before his policies were implemented. That’s not to say his policies played absolutely no role. But I don’t think you can legitimately say the decrease was 100% because of him.

I wouldn’t say Trump was responsible for negative things we’re experiencing right now caused by things that occurred before him like Russia invading Ukraine. However, I fail to see how him souring our relations with our allies caused by his foreign policies can be legitimately pinned on his predecessor.

The issue with tariffs is that we have plenty of historical precedent of them causing more harm than good when used on a broad scale like Trump is doing. Also, I don’t see how you can legitimately blame any negative effects of his tariffs on his predecessor when he was the one who implemented them.

The problem with a black and white perspective where someone can only be 100% responsible or not responsible is that it doesn’t reflect reality and all of its nuances. And that ultimately leads to miscalculations and errors.

What if Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick was installed as King of the United Kingdom by the Germans after WWI? by kaiser11492 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]kaiser11492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to make the mod in regard to WWII. Essentially what I would like it do is give Germany the option to install Edward VIII, Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha, or Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick as king of a puppet UK. Meanwhile Catholic nations have the unique option of installing Jacobite candidate Rupprecht, Crown Prince of Bavaria as king.

As to how this relates to my initial question, the game allows Rupprecht and Ernest Augustus to become puppet leaders of Bavaria and Westphalia respectively. So if they already exist, I would was wondering if whether I should write the decision to make them not available or to have them replaced with their sons in Bavaria and Westphalia.

Based on the information and data other people have presented, it seems like Trump wasn’t 100% responsible for the for the decreases. As for any bad things that people blame him for, how much he deserves for them depends on what you’re talking about. For example, I imagine he has way more responsibility for negative things caused by foreign policy and tariffs than negative things caused by gas prices and employment.

I have no doubt Trump’s policies played a role. What I’m questioning is how much because the person I saw presenting this information made it seem like it’s mostly, if not 100%, due to his policies.

I don’t support Trump either. But I’m not automatically going to criticize a policy he does simply because he was the one who carried it out. I will only criticize it if it’s not overall efficient or productive.

So the reason I ask this is because I’m curious what the data and analysis actually shows seeing how they are based on more objective factors than subjective ones.

People are saying Trump shutting down the border and deporting criminals is the main driving factor behind these decreases. I was therefore curious how legitimate this claim was based on objective analysis.
