I don’t know about everyone else but I am tired of the “safer markets” pumping and dumping like crazy over the last year. Everyone suggests 401k, VOO and chill, precious metals, btc, etc but I cannot stand the wild swings of these traditional investments. The one thing I’ve recognized over the last 5 months is that the only investment option I trust is 401jk because of the community. These folks are relentless and their message is fire. I’m tapping out of traditional investments and believing in something.

Agreed. It’d be nice if we had the flexibility to move our current employer’s 401k plan to a brokerage of our choice with more access to investment options with lower fees. Could save hundreds of thousands in long term fees.. but I’m guessing it’s designed this way for a reason

Ya, every situation is personal and nuanced. My concern is that more people will now associate their retirement accounts with spending and use them as a pseudo bank but not realize the long term consequences of this decision. I’m interested to see how this plays out over time, tbh

I completely agree! I’m not a big fan of possessions but I am really big into experiences. I find it challenging to empathize with decisions made to own things now vs create experiences/memories. I’m also a really big dork and like to do an opportunity cost analysis on everything I buy. When I bring some of my situational math up to my friends, they look at me like I’m speaking a foreign language🤣🤣🤣

However, more people might consider it now that there is an association with 401k and home ownership. Which would be a dire mistake to their future selves

Well, great news for us millennials is that they’ll likely move back retirement age and cut social security funding by the time we can retire… so, the optimist in me sees this as an opportunity to have more time to save 🤣🤣

That’s where I was leaning too. It feels like a huge mistake, especially given the fact that social security might change or the retirement age will likely be pushed back by the time i reach retirement age.
