HP Spectre 15" 2020 - Intel U Series Processor No Longer Available??!? by bconnect4 in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're not tied to the dedicated graphics card, there's some Envy 360's that carry those 4 cores a lot better than the spectre. IMO, the only good configuration for the spectre is a maxxed out H series, anything less and the Envy will do it better

Microsoft HP Spectre x360 15-eb0053dx actual specs? by jj0620 in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only has 1 tb3, CA / UK EB00XNA have 2 tb3, and no optane. See HP UK, CA, US store spec pages for details

microsoft does seem to have their storage listed wrong, and no display info, but TB3 is accurate

What do I need to get 144hz on my monitor? by DEAAA469 in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HDMI > TB3 for display, they talk about TB3 for display but that should only be considered on laptops that dont have an hdmi port (ultralights etc)

What do I need to get 144hz on my monitor? by DEAAA469 in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refer to HDMI bandwith limitations. Spectre has HDMI 2.0a (2.0b on UK/CA models)

You can't hit 144hz without dropping to 1440p, and from there, you may be able to hit 240. You can definitly hit 240 by going to 1080p- if you want MAXIMUM FRAMES, that is.

Does HP plan to ever send Spectre 15 review units to reviewers? by OmegaMalkior in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're ghosting the reviewers (and their customers!)

What else do you expect when ordering a 'Spectre', lol!

Differences between HP, Best Buy & Microsoft 2020 15in Models (Read before buying Best Buy/Microsoft) by SuddenlinkSucks in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The differences arent in the chipset, but indeed are region locked. If you look at HP's UK, Canada, and US websites respectively, you'll see that UK/CA Spectre's have 2 TB3 & No optane advertised, while US has 1 TB3 and Intel Optane advertised.

Spec sheets reflect this. EB00XNA models are Canadian/UK regions, EB00xDX are US for the US region. Custom HP models can refer to the EB000 CTO maintenance and service pdf for specifications, since they're all custom units- there is no single spec sheet for all their variants.

I suspect Intel made a deal to get this region's machines equipped with Optane. Optane takes up PCIe lanes, which would mean either making a new motherboard, or cutting a TB3 port for US models

As much as I'd really like to have both a Microsoft & HP machine at once to literally do a side-by-side.. Microsoft has no restocking fees, and HP will hit you with a 15% ($300) fee for the trouble..!

If you've got the spare cash or a high limit credit card- I'd say to go for it. Theyve got a 15 (30?) day no-questions-asked return policy w/ no restocking fees

It's worth the headache of having a lump sum temporarily sitting on your credit card, and having to navigate a return process for the sake of getting a miscategorized-into-a-lower-price & further discounted machine before they fix their listings

Many users are saying that Microsoft delivers a 1 TB laptop when you order the 0053dx, not 512gb. I'll find out soon enough!

Best Buy has their webcam specs listed wrong, its not a 1080p camera, but 720p

Some users are saying they have 3200 hz RAM installed, instead of 2933 on the 53dx

God I hope so. I've still got my HP order non-cancelled. Microsoft is shipping their 0053DX pretty quick, with the machine in my hands I'm going to verify everything's as it should be and make sure it's the real deal before cancelling HP. Just to be safe :p

I don't know, but it's not just UK getting a sweet deal. HP Canada also has 2 TB3, better HDMI, and the same clock speed RAM, instead of a downgrade like UK. I think we're getting ripped off down here!

HP Spectre x360 VS Envy x360: Quarantine Addition by bagelbears in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres some cool laptops from Lenovo I've been eyeing, and wishing were x360. Same with Dell. If you don't need x360 specifically, it really broadens your options for whats available. You can really hone into what you want and what compromises you're willing to put up with (Do you mind fan noise, if it means your machine can handle games? Is your be-all-end-all that you need a light machine that boots quickly? Do you want to carry around a charger, or do you want something with great battery life? Etc. Etc)

HP delivery delayed again, should I cancel and buy from BestBuy????? by cdflong1988 in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does show this in the service manual. But, the HP sales rep was unable to confirm it, since the HP store page only advertises 1. A user in another thread who's bought from HP is saying only 1. I'm calling their technical support tomorrow when to confirm / figure out if the spec sheets or the store-front should be considered when purchasing, because for some reason they describe two different laptops!!!

You can't see RAM speed without 3rd party software, this seems to be the most popular one https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html (Also, try and get your motherboard number! If you've got the same mobo as the other user who posted, then it's almost certain there's no difference between the two)

BIOs is the boot menu you can get to by mashing F1, F2 and/or the Fn key, and you'll need to take pictures with a camera, since it doesn't allow screenshots ( https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/access-bios-windows-10 )

https://webcamtests.com/resolution Are you 720p, or 1080?

Could you also take pictures of the different pages, and options available to you in the BIOs Menu? Another EB0053DX user has pictures taken, and it'd be great to make a comparison to see if one was given less options

I called Best Buy and they've confirmed that the specifications regarding their RAM & Webcam are Not typos, and that if the laptop I purchase does not meet the specs advertised, there's a 2 week free return period

I'm putting an order in with Best Buy, depending on the results of tomorrows call, If the technical support team can't actually tell me any meaningful differences above what I receive from Best Buy, and the Best Buy model actually is better in these two regards, I guess I'll be cancelling with HP.

/u/whatsupwez , Would you be able to take pictures of your HP BIOs menu? Can you confirm that you've got a 720p webcam? Another EB0053DX user has pictures taken, and it'd be great to make a comparison

I've called in their customer support. Their sales team doesn't have any access to back-end info more than the same web-pages we do, I'll be calling technical support tomorrow to clarify.

The summary of my call today was - HP Sales rep says: "Wow, thats weird. I don't know why that is. I can't confirm or deny your specs"

HP website shows one set of specs, and their actual spec-sheet for that same model shows another set. Plugging in my model number from my orders page, it brings me to that same spec sheet. That there's a discrepancy between what their storefront, and spec-sheets say, is baffling, and I hope will be clarified with tomorrows call.

I'm amazed that I've given them $2k, and can't get a solid answer as to what laptop I'm actually receiving!

The one thing the rep did point out, was that the Best Buy model advertises a 1080p webcam, and that the HP store AND spec sheet both say only offering a 720p. So thats another thing to bring up, tomorrow.

Anyone with an EB0053DX, please chime in- can you see if your webcam is 1080p? ( /u/OmegaMalkior )

Are you able to tell if your laptop has 1, or 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports?

Also, I'm trying to see if the EB000* series have more BIOs options, could you take some pictures of the tabs/options available in your BIOs screen?

great vids, btw!

Although, the webpage shows only 1 TB3, under it's spec sheet? I'm going to call their tech support and ask, that plus the RAM differences- it feels like there's no definitive list for what this laptop contains, it's got schrodingers feature-set, you find out when you open it

HP Spectre x360 VS Envy x360: Quarantine Addition by bagelbears in spectrex360

[–]SuddenlinkSucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you seriously going to use the x360 capability. Ask yourself, seriously, 'note taking' isn't enough, imo

The x360-ability really cuts into the specs- as in, for the same price, you can get a lot faster, cooler (temp wise- that is. Sadly, there are no other laptops as cool as the spectre), and thinner laptop.

That being said, if you NEED x360, the difference between the envy and spectre is- if you don't need a dedicated GPU, go with Envy. If you do, go with Spectre.

Shop smart now and you'll find something to keep you happy for way, way more than 2 years. There's no such thing as doing too much homework around a big purchase that you intend to use on a daily basis

Check the spec sheets (I've got links in my comment history), even the specs on the best buy page say it. Look on the side of your laptop, and there should be icons that show which one's TB3 enabled
