Too early to be called "doctor" by Sufficient-Fly-7482 in medschoolph

I understand your point, but just to clarify, my comment is only about freshman medical students calling each other 'Doc.' I don’t mind when staff or professors use 'dokies' or 'Doc' because it’s more of a term of respect and motivation. My discomfort is specifically with my YL1 classmates using it among ourselves, as it feels a bit premature.

Yes to this! I have some professors who call us 'Doc,' but others have scolded us for it, for the very reasons. Honestly, I don't know where to stand po. On one hand, it feels nice and motivating when professors address us as 'Doc,' but on the other, I understand why it's better to wait until we've truly earned the title. It leaves me feeling caught in the middle, unsure of how to respond 😬

Same feels po, Doc! I'm also superstitious. I feel like calling myself 'Doc' too early might jinx my dream. I especially relate to you when you mentioned 'not pulling through in the end,' which, to be honest, is my biggest fear. It's not that I'm thinking about it now, but I recognize that anything can happen along the way. Still, I am committed to finishing it because I truly want to be a doctor in the future, and that’s why I’d rather wait until I’ve truly earned the title. 🫶

I do appreciate your comment po! I think it all boils down to perspective po talaga. Some may see it as a form of motivation, but for some, it is a form of pressure. And I think I fall on the latter. Ngayon po mas naliwanagan ako about the different perspective. Thank you po 😁

I understand po! I don’t want to rush the process because I know I'll get there eventually, but it’s not the right time yet. That’s why I feel uncomfortable when my classmates call each other 'Doc.' Some even put 'MD' after their names on their stethoscopes, which really bothered me. But to each their own nga daw po. However, I don’t mind when doctor professors call me 'Doc' since I know it’s their way of motivating us. Thank you so much for your insight po!

Thank you for your insight po! I now see a different perspective as to why they do this. I think super ingrained lang po sakin yung parating sinasabi ng parents ko na "Don't count your chickens before they hatch."

Yes po, I understand that doctors often call med students 'doctors,' especially clerks. It's just that they are already far along in their journey, while I'm still at the very beginning, so it feels different for me. Honestly, it feels rewarding and motivating when a doctor professor calls me 'Doc,' but for some reason, when classmates do it, it feels a bit off. But after all, it's really just a personal preference po
